Glenn Cobb, RCE | Chief Staff Executive
The existing home sales market in our area is robust. We have seen 22 consecutive months of year over year existing home sales increases. While we embrace this hot resale market, we are still keeping an eye on what is to come. For months, NAR Cheif Economist Lawrence Yun has been asserting that government intervention and restrictive loan policies are artificially constraining the market. He makes the point that more normalized borrowing standards would allow the market to naturally progress even beyond it's current rate. Now that we see interest rates beginning their inevitable slow climb up to a more normalized level, home sales will indeed slow from their current torrid pace. Washington is again looking at increasing down payment requirements and fees which would, invariably lead to a slowing in home sales. Follow the link below to read an excellent analysis from Mr. Yun about where monetary policy should be heading and the impact it would have on home sales. Click here for Mr. Yun's article.
