July 2014 | Curtis Leonard

There will be a short delay in roll-out of new and updated NCAR residential forms:

The scheduled roll-out of new and updated NCAR residential forms on July 1st will be delayed for a short period of time. A new bill pending in the General Assembly could affect the content of several residential forms. Rather than releasing updated forms July 1 and then having to re-release a number of them to incorporate any necessary changes if the bill becomes law, a decision has been made to delay the roll-out in order to release all residential forms changes at one time. The roll-out will take place as soon as possible.  Please contact the NCAR legal department if you have any questions.

Happy summer!  I hope all of you are taking time to enjoy this North Carolina July weather.  All of us at WSRAR are enjoying our time meeting with so many of you about our Association services and hearing how you feel we can serve you best.  These “Strategic Listening” sessions have been very valuable so far and will help guide how we build our Association going forward.  If we have not met with your firm yet, please email me so we can set up a time to do so before the summer ends.

Another note of importance.  More than 3,400 North Carolinians who may be eligible for payments from Ocwen Financial Corporation and Ocwen Loan Servicing, LLC as part of a national settlement should start receiving claim forms this week.  Ocwen reached this settlement for improper foreclosure in about 3400 home loans in North Carolina.  The Attorney General’s Office has been facilitating these discussions and advised on July 1, 2014, that forms should be arriving to affected North Carolinians next week.  There were approximately 200 homeowners in our community that may be eligible.  You should keep up to date on this issue.  If you want to read more, go to the Attorney General’s website here. This is another opportunity for you to demonstrate to your clients that you are aware of real estate matters, serving your clients, and deserve to be their “trusted advisor” when real estate information is needed.
Have a great summer and keep in touch.  We can only serve you better if you let us know how we can help!

Zach DeWaters
Joint Government Affairs Director

WSRAR had a very impactful day lobbying members of the state legislature recently, meeting with local elected officials like Representatives Julia Howard, Debra Conrad, Donny Lambeth and Senators Joyce Krawiec and Andrew Brock. Members took the time to discuss issues impacting the industry, including the Historic Tax Credit, budget provisions, economic development issues and homeowners insurance legislation.

Each year, NC REALTORS® members get the opportunity to let NC legislators know what is important to them during the Legislative Day. The REALTOR® Rally featured a powerful lineup of Senators and Representatives who provided insight into the current General Assembly session.  Governor Pat McCrory was a guest speaker at the conference as well.

We strongly encourage you to join others members from the WSRAR at next years event!  Together, we can make a positive impact for NC REALTORS®.
