Entries close exactly 1 month from today
The Deadline for entry is 25 November, 5pm NZ time.
A panel of leading Australian and New Zealand violinists will select the 18 Semi-finalists (aged 18-28 years) who will be flown to New Zealand to compete live for a prize package valued at $100,000. These names will be announced in December 2014 and the dates of the 2015 Competition are 5-13 June.
The application repertoire is all standard (Bach, Paganini and a movement of a Romantic era Sonata) and can be found here.
Please carefully read through all of the application instructions and the rules and regulations. Late entries cannot be accepted.
For the 18 semi-finalists, the 2015 Competition starts in Queenstown with two rounds of solo and piano-accompanied works. After three intensive days of performance heats, the entire Competition moves up to Auckland where the top six violinists perform an all-Beethoven piano trio round. From there the top three are advanced to the Grand Final and perform a concerto accompanied by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. The Michael Hill offers generous professional development opportunities to all its competitors and all semi-finalists are strongly encouraged to take part. Feedback over the years is that every violinist has a positive experience and leaves New Zealand a stronger and more insightful artist.
Two Development Prizes are also awarded – one each for a New Zealand and Australian violinist. These are given to the highest ranked New Zealand and Australian violinists who do not make the semi-finals and these two musicians attend the Competition in New Zealand as part of their professional development.
