Savings from this purchase will be passed on to educational institutions, beginning farmers and ranchers and established operations with the goal of expanding job opportunities.

Seeds for Gardens and Greenhouses

Spring is just around the corner! It's time to think about spring planting!
Cawaco still has seeds to donate FREE OF CHARGE to community gardens, educational gardens, and school gardens! So far the following organizations and communities have received these seed: Christian Service Mission, Chilton Kiwanis Club Community Garden, Walker County Community Garden, Walker County Center of Technology, Coosa RC&D (to be distributed to 11 counties), Community Garden Coalition for Birmingham, Shelby County HS Ag Dept., McAdory HS Ag Dept., Isabella HS Ag Dept. (to be used in 3 schools and at Chilton County Ag Farm),Cornerstone School.

County Needs Assessment Meetings

In 2013, the Council approved the 5 Year Strategic Plan 2014-2019 and set a goal to focus funding and staff time to develop projects that focus on public recreation. 
 In 2014, a project needs assessment was conducted in each county to identify projects and direct staff time. The purpose of conducting Needs Assessment Meetings is to give community members opportunities to identify the areas of most need in their County that Cawaco can address. Needs Assessment Meeting Dates 2015 are as follows: Blount- Jan. 22- Chilton Feb 5- Walker Feb. 9. Jefferson and Shelby County dates TBD.

Cahaba Connections Conference

Mark your calendars for the Cahaba Connections - "The State and Future of Our River" Conference which will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015. This first time conference event will also be the first opportunity for guests to visit the new Living River facility located on the Cahaba River in the corner of both Bibb and Shelby County near the old, now removed Marvel Slab site. The conference will feature presenters highlighting the present issues faced and future challenges for the Cahaba River and its watershed basin.  There is also an opportunity to stay an additional day and enjoy the facilities and the river, go canoeing, hiking, or attend the annual Cahaba Lily Festival in nearby West Blocton. Cawaco will present "The Cawaco RC&D Grant Program- From Start to Finish" as part of a Grant Writing Workshop being held in Blountsville, AL., on March 5. Others on the agenda include the Alabama Power Foundation and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. 
2015 Electrathon Race at Barber Motorsports Park: Registration is now open for the “Electrathon Alabama” at Barbers Motor Sports Park on Monday April 6th. You can register for this event at if you have any further questions, call Brian Copes at (205) 396-4455 cell.
The 10 Annual Watershed Conference “The Value of Water” is being held February 18, 2015 ~ 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Convention Center, Montgomery
Attention Foresters and Loggers: 4 CFEs and/or 6 PLM Hours are being offered through this conference!
 The ACWP is partnering with the Home Builders Association of Alabama (HBAA) to hold our 10th Annual Watershed Conference in conjunction with HBAA's ABLE Expo (Alabama’s Better Living Expo).  ABLE is Alabama’s largest conference on sustainability and energy efficient technology, offering attendees an opportunity to earn about a variety of subjects focused on resource efficiency and renewable technologies. 
Your $79 watershed conference registration fee provides you admission to the ACWP 10th Annual Watershed Conference, offering great networking opportunities and a variety of speakers discussing current water related topics appealing to a variety of stakeholders.  Click here for more info.
The Urban Forestry Fair is being held February 26 at Linn Park (between the downtown Courthouse and Birmingham City Hall) from 9 am to 2 pm to receive FREE tree seedlings ready for planting. Sponsored by the National Resources Conservation Service and the Alabama Forestry Commission.
