Finding a way? No Way!!!  My all out effort to make sure you get your newsletter delivered to your inbox each week seems to be a giant failure😤  I've worked with just about anyone and everyone to make changes. I was told that some of the changes that I made would fix the problem. HA! 🤥  At times, I've felt like Bill Murray in Caddyshack going after that troublesome gopher. Several of you told me you did not get your copy last week.
So the new guaranteed fix is: If don't get your newsletter, email me and I will send you a copy asap. You can also read back copies by clicking the view it in your browser link. Thanks!

Steven Van Zandt, the E Street Band guitarist, says a new show about Dion DiMucci’s life story is born to run on Broadway because it doesn’t rush through the songs like other “jukebox musicals." "Nine times out of 10 they change the music in ways that always bugs me." He cites the  “Jersey Boys,” the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, as guilty of having done that even though he saw it several times and enjoyed it overall.  “Broadway feels they have to speed everything up, I don’t know where that impulse comes from.” Van Zandt loves that the still-incubating Dion musical lets the songs in “The Wanderer” stand on their own rather than using them as a segue to get from scene to scene.

While Van Zandt is known for his work with Bruce Springsteen, he has released a new live collection, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul's "Soulfire Tour," recorded last year on his tour in North America and Europe.  While at Lead East earlier this month, there was a lot of conversation about one of the songs on the album as  Little Steven goes back to his Doo Wop roots. See if you don't agree as you listen to The City Weeps Tonight

Rave On: The Buddy Holly Story the BBC produced documentary has been released in the United States and will be airing on PBS stations around the country starting this weekend. The film, produced by 1515 Productions, explores Holly's life via interviews with those who knew and worked with him, as well as prominent music fans who were influenced by his work. Holly was one of the most influential Rock & Roll artists of all time with an incredible body of music in his all-too-brief career, before his untimely death at the age of 22.  Check your local PBS station for air times in your city.

The Library of Congress is the world's largest repository of images with a collection of more than 1.6 million items. The Library is now making hundreds of its digitized treasures more easily accessible to the public, with the launch of its online National Screening Room. I searched the catalog and it is loaded with great Doo Wop and Rock & Roll items including movies, books and albums. This is a real treasure that I'm sure you will enjoy exploring and downloading.

Elvis Book This may be the perfect Christmas gift for that Elvis fan in your family. Yes, Christmas is less that 3 months away!  Steve Binder, the man behind Elvis Presley's comeback with the NBC TV Special in 1968, collected his memories in a new book: Comeback '68 The Story of the Elvis Special. As a trusted visionary, Binder’s narrative captures the behind-the-scenes tug of war between himself and Colonel Parker as they fought for their competing visions. That Steve Binder won is evident as the result was an iconic and life-changing event, enjoyed by millions of American viewers that evening in December 1968. Like most things Elvis, it carries a hefty price tag of $36.99 and is available in the Graceland online store.

Mark Lindsay has cancelled upcoming concert dates after receiving a pacemaker September 19. Mark was in good hands, though. His cardiologist once played guitar in a band that opened for the Raiders in 1965. Mark says he has 3 PRR songs that will be used in upcoming movies. Arizona is the theme song for the movie of the same name and two Quentin Tarantino films. Lindsay says he also licensed a song to American Idol for the 2019 season. All that good news should make Lindsay feel a little better.

Allman Brothers Band guitarist and vocalist Dickey Betts fell and struck his head at his Sarasota, Florida home and underwent successful brain surgery September 21 to relieve swelling. The fall may have been the result of a stroke the 74 year-old suffered in August.

Marty Balin
, who co-founded the San Francisco psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane died Thursday at the age of 76. Balin and the Jefferson Airplane were pioneers of psychedelic rock who helped define the San Francisco music scene in the 1960s. The Jefferson Airplane was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

8/27/2018  Thank you for both the link to the letter and Stardust by Frankie & Cameos; rarely have I heard both verses with the chorus. The only two prior occasions I recall were Nat Cole and Billy Ward & Dominos. On the latter, I think it was Gene Mumford on lead.
Bob Engleman

GF: Thanks, Bob. More than one way to beat the system. (My editor will not let me say "skin a cat.") If you don't get your newsletter send me an email.

Always look forward to my reading of your newsletter on Sunday. Great link to the Pizzaro/Cameos video.

GF: I got several rave reviews on the Frankie Pizarro/Cameos video which I have linked again here. I told Frankie that he needs to do more with the Cameos who are one of my favorite groups. Great peeps as well.

Hi Glen,
I am enjoying your newsletter; very professionally done. Would you please add my radio show to your links section? ( Party Time with Joe T. )

 Video of the Week

 Kenny Vance & The Planotones
          Zoom, Zoom, Zoom
Here is a video that I had not seen before. It's, Kenny, Frenchy, Johnny and Jimmy strolling through the park doing what they do best. This is off Kenny's Happy Holidays cd.

Little Anthony & the Imperials were on the schedule for my daughter Stacy and I last week at the Villages in Florida. Fighting sinus issues, Anthony did a great job getting through a 22-23 song set. The Imperials, which includes the founding member of the group, Ernest Wright, were superb.
I featured the acappella version of Two People In The World (thank you, Lou Alfano) last week and they did sing it at this show. Anthony was not able to hit all the notes but he was close. In addition to the music, the group was very entertaining as they kept the audience laughing throughout the show. Fun show complete with great memories. If you get an opportunity, make sure you see them.

10/2/54  Elvis makes his only appearance on Nashville's Grand Ole Opry.

10/5 /04   The musical " Jersey Boys: Story of 4 Seasons" has its premiere at La Jolla, California Playhouse.

10/15/71  Rick Nelson plays his Madison Square "Garden Party" in NYC.

10/21/58  Buddy Holly's last recording session is held in NYC. Recording  "True Love Ways," "Raining In My Heart " and "It Doesn't Matter Anymore." See more on Buddy and Rave On on the opposite column.

French Doo Wop? My friend Joe Conroy, who has worked with the Earth Angels and Crystalaires across the pond, has been vacationing in France. I asked him how the Doo Wop was over there and he said this was the closest thing he's found.
