There will be a Social this Thursday, October 15, starting at 5:00pm.
Paulette Simpson and Chris Urata will be serving "Tailgate Food" - Bratwurst Stew, Kale Salad and Soft Pretzels, for the optional dinner.
Debbie and Kent Hart will be Bar Hosts this week and will be serving Apple Jack and/or Jim as the drink special and taste test. They will also be serving wine, beer, soda and common mixed drinks.
TAKE OUT DINNERS
You can support your club and enjoy a quality yet inexpensive dinner prepared for you while maintaining social distancing. Pick up will be between 6:00 and 6:30 pm at the kitchen.
Please reserve and pay for TAKE OUT Dinners by Tuesday evening so we have enough food! (Form not available after midnight Tuesday.)

Drink chips are $4.00 each or 3 for $10.00. Social Dinners are $15.00. Prices include sales tax.

There are obvious risks to meeting indoors for prolonged periods prior to a COVID-19 vaccine or treatment. The decision to attend is the responsibility of each individual attendee. JYC assumes no liability for possible exposure and any resultant illness.
We will space tables at 6 or more feet apart and provide hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. Food servers will wear face covering and gloves and will serve the food to you. If you are sick or you have a vulnerability, please stay home. If you wish to wear face covering, feel free to do so. Do not expect all attendees or bar hosts to be wearing face covering. Social distancing is recommended outside of your "bubble".

If you are not a Juneau Yacht Club member but are interested in joining the Club, please come to one of our Thursday evening Socials as a guest of a member or come and introduce yourself to any Board member. We will be glad to make you our guest, show you around and discuss the benefits of joining. Under our Club Liquor License, non-members are not allowed to purchase alcoholic beverages but your host may treat you and you are welcome to join us for dinner! |

Last Week's Social Report

The Social last Thursday, October 8, was attended by 12 people with 2 take out dinners reserved. Christopher Burton was bar host. James Bibb served delicious beef and veggie chili for dinner and Lisa Hickman supplied scrumptious honey cornbread muffins. Thank you to the volunteers and to all the members supporting the club by purchasing meals and drinks!

Help for Potential and Current Social Cooks
|
|
|
Our terrific Dinner Manager, Lisa Hickman, has offered to help make Social dinner preparation and serving easier! If you didn't know it, Lisa is a certified kitchen manager and in charge of restaurant and retail operations for Alaska Travel Adventures, which includes the Gold Creek Salmon Bake, as well as offering cooking classes at her MyKitchenAk website. She is offering a free hour of time for any Club member interested in cooking for Socials. She plans to cover these areas of interest:
- Menu and portion planning
- Use of Club kitchen appliances and utensils
- Safe food handling
- Serving tips
- Preparation of takeout dinners
- Other questions and concerns
Lisa will present a group tutorial next Saturday, October 17 at 1:00 pm, or you may contact her at one of the links below to arrange a time for an individual session.
In addition, Lisa has offered to assist in the actual preparation and serving at the Socials! And, she has stocked the freezer with quick-preparation dinner items that can be used in case of an unexpectedly large crowd. THANKS LISA!

Christmas Lights Work Party
|
|
|
There will be a work party starting at 11:00 am this Saturday, October 17, to install Christmas lights around the building. Everyone is welcome to come and help, especially if you are ladder climbers. Lisa has offered to bring pastries and to have a pot of hot coffee for all volunteers!
|
|
|
The Board of Directors has appointed a Nominating Committee for election of officers and directors for the next year. The five positions to be filled this year are all for 2-year terms. They are:
- Rear Commodore
- Secretary
- Fleet Captain - Power
- Fleet Captain - Sail
- one Director at Large.
The Nominating Committee is now accepting nominations for these officers and directors from any JYC member and will present a slate of nominees to be voted on by the members in November.
For a description of the positions and procedure for filling the positions, you may review the Bylaws HERE or read them at any time on the club webpage under "The Club" menu item.

Covid-19 is hitting hard and we are all in this together. Lifetime members were solicited to donate to the Club last month via email. We are opening this opportunity to all members via the following options:
- Prepay 2021 Dues. JYC has made it easy! Please click on the link below or send a check for $100 per member to PO Box 20146, Juneau, AK 99801.

- Make a Donation. Click the link below to donate to the Club. There is also a Donation button near the bottom of this newsletter and on the website should you care to provide additional support to your Club.

- Support Socials. You are supporting the Club when you buy beverages and dinners. If you do not wish to attend in person, you can still order takeout dinners (see above). Volunteering to host the bar, setting out tables and chairs, as well as cooking and serving dinners is another means of support.
