This Tuesday's Generosity Idea
June is observed as LGBTQ+ Pride month to commemorate the June 1969 Stonewall Riots and celebrate the vibrant and diverse LGBTQ community worldwide. Our friends who lead #GivingTuesdayLGBTQ+ also organize GiveOUTDay: a month-long giving campaign which culminates tomorrow, June 30! For #GivingEveryTuesday today, let's show up for our friends who identify as LGBTQ+, support organizations that are working toward equality, achieving inclusive spaces, creating dialogue and building an accepting culture.
- Donate to an LGTBQ organization today at GiveOutDay.org.
- Call out homophobia, transphobia, and anti-LGBTQ harassment within your own circle. Educate others about how to be more accepting.
- Take action at the local level to create safe spaces for LGBTQ youth. Consider your community and some of the places where youth spend time -- are they safe for LGBTQ youth? Consider contacting your local school board and encouraging members to adopt inclusive policies.
- Don't assume folks' pronouns. It may not seem like a big deal, but using the wrong pronouns for someone can be invalidating and hurtful.
- Attend a Pride Parade in your community or check out a virtual one.
