This Tuesday's Generosity Idea
Aging adults can face a number of challenges, from loneliness to failing health. Volunteering with senior citizens is a great way to thank them for their years of service and to help brighten their day. When two generations come together in service, it helps bridge the age gap and everyone can come away having learned something
- Give to nonprofits that are supporting seniors! There are two #GivingTuesday community campaigns focused on seniors: Give65 and the San Diego Senior Community Foundation.
- Volunteer at a senior center or nursing home to lead bingo, do a craft, or just plain talk with someone.
- Reach out to family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances who may need someone to talk to or assistance with tasks. A phone call, video chat, mailed letter or e-mail will help their mental well-being and ensure that they have someone to speak or communicate with if they require support. You can also write letters and bring some joy to seniors through Love for Our Elders
- Speak up against ageism when you see it
