Dear Friends:

Mezzrow is now at about one year and a half into its existence.  It feels like it's been there for far longer.  It's been gratifying and humbling to present a club like this to the people and see it get accepted and then loved.  I wasn't sure at first how folks would react to it.  At first I was afraid everyone would hate it.  But now one and a half years into it the feeling of the club is so nice -  and I've been told by many people that it's their favorite place in the city.  I've been told by some folks how Mezzrow has changed their lives - that it has brought something to them that was missing.  I received this letter in the mail that I wanted to share -

"...this past Saturday evening was simply one of the finest hours of live music we have enjoyed in many years.  When we first read of Mezzrow a year back in the Times we knew we wanted to enjoy it as much as possible.  We have never been disappointed!"

There is a certain kind of audience that is attracted to the place.  It's kind of a throwback to another era in New York when piano rooms were common and people would go out for a cocktail in a quiet and dark environment.  I never understood the need for all of the televisions everywhere - why it seems obligatory.  Sometimes it's nice to be able to talk or, better yet, listen and absorb.  That's the function of Mezzrow.  Quality music attracts quality people.  No loudspeakers or televisions, just a Steinway piano and some great natural acoustics.

I hope to see you at the clubs this week.

Regards,

Spike
