Dear Friends:

Sometimes Greenwich Village is really a village.  Just a small town full of friends and neighbors.  After nine years of running a business in the area I feel like Mr. Rodgers - walking down the street saying hello to the postman, the delivery guy, the construction workers.  Same in the clubs - familiar faces come for shows - to have a taste of familiarity, something personal.   People love to see Mitch at the door with his wry smile and a few words of wisdom.  Our bartenders refer to our customers as "my love" (as in, "what can I get for you, my love..?").  I talk about it all the time but the key is the family, the neighborhood, the community.  A time to commune with folks who have the same mindset and, through the years, grow richer in spirit together.  It's a beautiful thing.  Walking home late in the Village one night I heard the Greenwich Village clock tower pealing in the night and was reminded of this haiku from Basho -

Temple bells die out.

The fragrant blossoms remain.

A perfect evening!

Jazz, friends, a glass of whiskey - a perfect evening indeed, and one that often plays out night after night.  I do hope you can join us.
