             NEWSLETTER & SCHEDULE
October 12th, 2015
Dear Friends:

After about 3 solid years of work and representing 8 full years of archived material from Smalls Jazz Club, our new website is finally launched!  Click either www.smallslive.com or www.smallsjazzclub.com - both go to the same place.

Aside from our comprehensive calendar of events and live video stream is our complete audio/video archive.  This archive is our Artist Revenue Sharing Project.  Our goal is to offer complete access to our archive to our members at $10/month.  This revenue is pooled and shared with every artist in the archive based on usage.  Revenue collected from this project will subsidize the costs of running the clubs and create a revenue stream that goes directly to all of the musicians who have performed at Smalls Jazz Club.  Our artist share agreement is the result of "town-hall" style meetings with musicians and musician representatives as well as meetings with the local 802 Musician's Union.  We feel that it may very well represent the most fair revenue sharing system in existence today.  In light of the disaster of sites such as Spotify and others that pay artists fractions of a percentage - we are a 50/50 split between the artists and the club.  Our philosophy is that artists and clubs have an important symbiotic relationship and can survive together as equal partners.  Artist retain 100% ownership of their recordings and publishing.  Artists may opt to make certain shows private if they wish.  Artists can choose to "co-own" the masters with other artists that are on the shows.  In other words, this project, like at Smalls (and Mezzrow) is created by musicians for musicians.

We are offering 3 membership tiers.  The first is our "free" membership.  Enter a valid email (you'll get a confirmation link) and you can watch our live-stream for free.  However, is there a show you wanted to see and missed?  Want to peruse the 10,000 recordings in our archive?  Then for $10/month you can have unlimited access and remember, we add nearly 20 shows per week to the archive.  Also, by being a subscribing member of SmallsLIVE, you are directly benefitting the musicians and the club.  Our third tier is our "Benefactor" tier.  This is for members who want to support the clubs and artists in a bigger way.

You are making a difference by contributing, not paying some mindless corporation.  Please remember, that our content is 100% exclusive.  You will not be able to find it on any other platform but SmallsLIVE.

Please note that your password and email from the old site no longer works.  You will need to re-register with the new site by choosing a membership tier and going through the registration again.

I want to publicly thank my partner Nate Aune and his excellent development team, Filip Jukic and Matej Grozdanovic, who spent the better part of a year working with me hand in hand to create this beautiful and complex website.  Also my thanks to my hardworking assistant Una Stade, who gave 100%.  My thanks to Tuomo Uusitalo, Jon Roche and Mike Bond who all contributed many hours to make this site real.

SmallsLIVE is international.  Our goal is education and dissemination of this music.  As I've said before, the motto of SmallsLIVE is "we are dedicated to world peace through music".  We believe we can achieve this.

Regards,

Spike

P.S:  Musicians - if you have played at Smalls anytime in the last 8 years and have not yet been registered, please contact me and we'll set up your account.

NOW: A cover paid at Mezzrow also gets you admission to Smalls.
