Dear Friends:

Wow, intense week last week.  We opened our new club, Mezzrow on Wednesday night with Johnny O'Neal doing the honors.  It was a nice crowd filled with well wishers and musical fans.  Right away we began to have a sense of what we had and what we needed to do.  The most glorious surprise was how amazing the acoustics are in the room.  The room is a natural for piano duets with the sound projecting fully and clearly with some natural reverb.  There was absolutely no need for amplification on either the piano or the bass.  In the listening room the sound was crystalline and very present in the lounge.  The rest of the weekend was the amazing Cyrus Chestnut and Dezron Douglas holding court and breaking in the piano.  Overall it was really successful.  Everyone that I talked to loved the vibe of the club and felt that it was very comfortable.  Everyone was knocked out by the sound.  It was also really cool to be able to sell advanced tickets to the shows - a luxury that many of our fans appreciated.

The New York Times was there and wrote a really fantastic review.  I cant say how grateful I am to Nate Chinen who came in and wrote this very positive article.  Of course the day it came out we sold out both shows!  In case you haven't had a chance to read it, here's the link ----> CLICK HERE.

We also had another great review from Larry Blumenfeld who noticed our special acoustics and wrote about it.  Here's the link to that article --> CLICK HERE

I'm excited to say that I'll be playing my first show at Mezzrow this week on September 10th and 11th with my old friend Peter Bernstein on guitar and Paul Gill on bass.  This weekend we've got the marvelous pianist Rossano Sportiello playing on Friday with saxophonist Scott Robinson and on Saturday with Harry Allen and a final Sunday set with Frank Tate.  Check our listing below and if you want to grab a seat don't hesitate to get it in advance on-line.

The nicest thing is that Smalls and Mezzrow are right across the street from each other.  Waiting for a midnight show at Smalls?  - then swing by Mezzrow for a drink while you wait, and vice-versa.  It was fun bopping back and forth between the two clubs, each with it's own flavor and crowd.

I wish everyone the best and hope to see you at both spots.
