             NEWSLETTER & SCHEDULE
March 16th, 2015
Dear Friends:

This weekend was encouraging.  Just a slight change in the weather and the Village came alive!  Both clubs were packed.  Over at Mezzrow we had capacity crowds to hear the extraordinary pianist Eric Lewis better known these days as ELEW.  At Smalls pianist George Burton had the helm.  Folks seemed excited and the energy was crackling.  I can only breath a sigh of relief.  I was beginning to wonder if the winter was ever going to break.

This week we have some exceptional shows.  I'm particularly psyched to have Ethan Iverson and Seamus Blake at Mezzrow for a couple of evenings of duo.  At Smalls on Thursday night is the wonderful Microscopic Sextet - a group certainly worth hearing.  I'd like to put in a plug for my own band that is playing this coming Sunday.  I call it the Well Tempered Quartet because it features 3 keyboard instruments (piano, organ and vibes) - please swing by if you have chance.

I also want to mention that our afternoon jam sessions on Friday and Saturday have been humming with young players.  If you want to play jump into the pool - the water's fine.  Also, of course, our late late sessions for those of you that never sleep, like me.

I wish and everyone the best and look forward to seeing you at the clubs.

Regards,

Spike
