Welcome to our new Smalls Jazz Club/SmallsLIVE newsletter. We will be presenting a more comprehensive overview of the shows at Smalls and the artists that perform here. Beyond just our schedule, we will offer exclusive audio recordings, video clips, a weekly free live video stream of one of our main events, musician interviews as well as info on our catalog and upcoming SmallsLIVE releases.
As usual, Smalls packs as much music as possible in the course of one week. This week is no exception. On Monday evenings we will be presenting a series of one set solo guitar concerts starting with guitarist Paul Meyers who will be opening up for Ari Hoenig's group. On Tuesday is a double header starting with pianist Rick Germanson and his quartet featuring alto saxophonist Sherman Irby. Rick has just released a neww SmallsLIVE project featuring legendary trumpeter Eddie Henderson. Following Rick's group is our steady Tuesday "Round Midnight" concert featuring an incredible sextet co-led by pianist Theo Hill and trumpeter Josh Evans and featuring Blakey alum Frank Lacy. On Thursday night we will be offering our live video feed for free as an way to introduce you to our live video system. The band is going to be led by pianist Lafayette Harris and features an incredible young singer named Jazzmeia Horn. If you can't make it to the club then tune in on our website. This coming weekend we have a slew of groups including Peter Zak's quartet, the great Tardo Hammer and his trio, an after-hour show with saxophonist Stacy Dillard and his trio "Brooklyn Circle". On Sunday we have back to back legends - first the great Bucky Pizzarelli in a duet with Ed Laub and then the amazing Johnny O'Neal for his weekly residence.
Smalls is an amazing place, if you've never been here please try to make it by and check us out. We have jam sessions every afternoon and after-hours and there's always some amazing Jazz music being performed.
