Focus

Have you ever thought about what doesn’t work in the world? Once you start, your mind shifts from one concerning thought to the next, and pretty soon, it gets hard to avoid letting your emotions get the best of you. But, what if we were to stop and rather, focus on what is good in the world? What would we do with all of the joy harvested from positive thoughts? The result would likely leave us feeling completely different.

This idea is summed up in the book of Mark 12:30-31: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself'. There is no commandment greater than these.” (NIV)

Join me in thinking about ways we can think positively and share more joy throughout our community.

Blessings,
E. David Lopez

Alaska - Feature

Dillingham, Bristol Bay Alaska

This last weekend the Center for Humanitarian Engagement partnered with Alaska Missions and sent out a small group of students to the Dillingham Adventist Church in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Students lead out in a children’s program for a Camp Meeting. The theme for the weekend was Compassion and the community learned more about how to show compassion and how as a whole church we can improve in showing compassion to others with the same faith or to those with no faith.
The children learned about the basic understanding of compassion from doing a craft about love based on 1 Corinthians 13. Sabbath morning they sang songs and got to know each other a little bit better and together they learned about the Good Samaritan and how to treat others. During the afternoon and evening program, the children bonded over playing games with the students.
Thank you Bristol Bay for being so welcoming, strong in your faith, and willing to reach out to others to share your faith.

This weekend CARE partnered with Missions Club to express Generosity in Service by handing out flowers and notes of encouragement to some new friends around Walla Walla. The outcome was a positive interaction and impact on people's day knowing that someone cares.
