Update from the Board
The second semester is about to take off and we're looking back on a succesful first month of 2017. Our annual Meet the Masters was great and hopefully helped some of you in your preparation for your master application. For February you can expect another great event (a trip to The Hague!), finally some disclosure on the location of this year's study trip, our first General Assembly and last but not least: later this month we will finally open the board room for members! So feel free to come by and bother us with questions or just hang out and have a chat. More info on opening times will follow soon. Hope you enjoy this month's newsletter and we'll see you soon!
On behalf of the board,
President of CS Ubuntu
Upcoming CS Ubuntu Events
08 February, Monthly Drinks
Dear Ubuntu people,
Don’t forget to join the next monthly drinks on February 8. We’ll go to De Stadsgenoot at 9 PM. This will be the best way to start your new semester off on the right foot. See y’all there! Be there, or be square!
16 February, General Assembly
Do you want to know what's happening behind the scenes or do you want to vote on important CS Ubuntu matters? Then this is your chance! At this year's first General Assembly you'll get the chance to let your voice be heard and to check how your favorite board and committees are doing. We'll give you an update on future plans, present our budget and as always have some food and drinks. Last but not least, we'll give you a first glance at possibilities for a board year of your own. So don't miss this!
23 February, Excursion to The Hague
CS Ubuntu is going to The Hague! Join us on a day exploring the legislative capital of the Netherlands including a visit to the most important buildings. On Thursday, February 23rd, we will travel together by train to the beautiful city of The Hague, where our main visit will be the Dutch Parliament. Here we will visit the Hall of Knights, House of Representatives and the Dutch Senate all with a guided tour to discover the world of politics in the Netherlands!
The visit will be from 15:15 to 16:45 at a cost of €5.-, after which we will all get together to relax and enjoy some drinks near Parliament. Train tickets must be covered individually, and you can travel with the rest of the Ubuntu group or make your way at your own pace!
Spots are limited, so make sure to reserve yours on time! Check out the Facebook event for more information. If you want to signup immediately you can fillout the form.
A Recap Of Last Month's events 17 January, Meet the Masters
A few weeks have passed already since Ubuntu's last Meet the Masters evening! On January 17th, Ubuntu organized this educative event so that students interested in following a conflict-related master, could join and listen to masters as they talked about their personal experiences with their studies. Present were speakers from Conflict Resolution and Governance (UVA), Conflict Studies and Human Rights (UU), International Public Law (UU), Militairy History (UVA) and Conflict, Identities and Territories (RU). The event was a succes: curious students were able to get in touch with masters from their disciplines of interest. Within an informal setting, professional and above all unique insights were provided in order to make students able to compare the different Conflict Studies masters first hand! We are already looking forward to another Meet the Masters event.
