Update from the Board

Dear members,

While everyone is in the process of wrapping up the third block, April has started with an incredibly sunny weekend, of which I hope you have all been able to enjoy a bit. This warm weather is a prelude to what’s to come for CS Ubuntu: in a few days, we expect to catch some more sun during our great adventures in Bilbao and Barcelona

The Study Trip Committee has done a wonderful job in putting together an incredible programme and is working hard to finalize the last details. This trip also means that CS Ubuntu will be out of office from April 14th to April 22nd. Thanks to EU agreements on phone and internet usage, messages will be received, but it may take us a bit longer to respond while we are on the road.

Furthermore, spring weather also means that we’re 3/4th through this academic year. Therefore, the buzz of a new board is very noticeable. Do you think you can take CS Ubuntu further next year and become one of the board members? The possibility to apply lasts until the end of this month (30th of April). There is a second board member information evening this Wednesday - see below for more information! - after which we will have drinks.

Also: to those that have applied to the MA Conflict Studies and Human Rights this year, best of luck! To all others, enjoy the read!

Best wishes,
On behalf of the board,

Anouk Pietersen
President of CS Ubuntu 2017-2018
CS Ubuntu’s Laser Tag Champion 2018

Call for Board Members!

Everything comes to an end, and therefore also our board year! For the upcoming year, we are looking for four or five enthusiastic students, willing and able to take over our positions. Do you see yourself as the new president, secretary, treasurer, external affairs officer or possibly education officer? Don't hesitate to apply by sending a letter of motivation and your CV to info@csubuntu.nl before the 30th of April!

For those of you who still have some important questions to ask, are hesitant about the implications of becoming a board member, or are unsure if you are qualified: we are hosting a Board Member Info Evening on the 11th of April! This evening is meant for all kinds of people: if you are just in the orientation phase, curious about our experiences or have some final questions about the application procedure - feel welcome to join!

If you are not able to make it on the 11th, check out our website and find information about the positions, the vacancy itself or take a look at the past activities of our organization! csubuntu.nl/becoming-a-boardmember/

After the 30th of April, we will organize several small interviews and divide the positions between qualified applicants. The board year will formally start at the end of June.

Upcoming CS Ubuntu Events

14-22 April: Big Study Trip: Basque Country & Catalunya

The Study Trip Committee is proud to announce the destination of the Big Study Trip! During the last Study Trip, we fixed bayonets and charged the Huns across Flanders Fields under the sound of the British Grenadiers and we emerged victoriously! On our Big Study Trip, we will not only go to one, but TWO destinations: Basque Country and Catalunya!
On the 14th of April, we will leave the Netherlands for sunny Spain, with a full week of academic and fun activities! We will keep you up to date on our adventures!

26 April: Trip to the National Military Museum

Curious about the strength of the Dutch military past and present? Interested in the birthplace of Military Aviation? Want to look at portraits of old men in armour? Then this event is for you!
Come join CS Ubuntu on an adventure to the National Military Museum on April 26, 2018.
Some museum reviews from the internet include:

“Nice Museum” (August 17, 2017)
“Never Again” (August 17, 2017)
“Really Amazing. Recommended. Coffee is delicious upstairs and prepared by a real barista. Nice museum. We will come back again.” (August 11, 2017)
“Now, really. Never Again.” (August 10, 2017)
“Magnificent.” (June 24, 2017)

Curious how two visitors from the same day had such different experiences? Come to this event and you can make a review for yourself!

Tickets are 11,00 euro. Free for those with a Museumkaart.

We will journey from Utrecht together to the museum which is located at: Verlengde Paltzerweg 1, 3768 MX Soest. Exact departure times will be announced soon!

A Recap of Last Month's Events

29 March: Lasertag

On March 29th, the Activities Committee invited everyone for an evening full of lasers, mines, conflict, and beer. In two rounds, Team Red duked it out against Team Blue at Ozebi Lasergaming. While some hardly fired a 'round', perhaps due to technical issues, others were spending all of their ammo to get the high score. Who would've thought that running around in a dark arena with cheesy 'pew-pew' sound effects everywhere can be so exhausting? Afterwards, we cooled off with drinks at Cafe De Stadsgenoot. A memorable evening!

4 April: Study Trip Pub Quiz

On the 4th of April, the Study Trip Committee hosted a Pre-Departure pub quiz. The President, Liesl, and PR Officer, Kayla, hosted the evening, in order to ensure that their troops are prepared for battle later this month. Within the quiz, knowledge of Spain was tested next to some questions on general knowledge of sports and pop culture. Another round was on Ireland, as Kayla, like any good dictator, likes to abuse her position of power ;). Despite good efforts all round, Team 2 surfaced as victors and received a Military Cross for their bravery and valour (not really). We then marched on to join Monthly Drinks in Café Stadsgenoot where the good vibes continued 😉

We look forward to seeing those on the Study Trip soon! And for those who aren’t joining we hope you can come along next year!
