"You Have to Care!"

Universal lessons from Improv class

In February 2013, I walked into the Idiot Box Comedy Club in Greensboro, NC not knowing what exactly to expect. My first day of improv classes, I just wanted to learn how to be more spontaneous and quick witted. In the end, I learned so much more.

The most valuable of lessons for me was when our instructor watched us quickly running through an offer/ acceptance exercise. Part way through she stopped us and yelled in her half joking but all business bark, "You have to care about the offer, about the other person in the scene. Who are you to them? You need to know them. You have to react to that offer and the funny will happen."

The fact that I had to care resonated with me and how I can incorporate it in my business and my life. Some times in life things move so quickly that we are reacting without taking time to truly caring about those things in our lives that are so very important not only to us, but also to those that we love. I carry that with now, whether I'm voicing copy, driving down the highway, or spending time with loved ones. So I pass this along to you and hope that it can add something positive to your life.... You have to care to make what you're doing impactful!

And now for some fun!

I love music and I love voice over so how about a quick game of guess the musician who voiced this character? The characters are pictured below. Click on the character image to discover the musical artist that brought that animated being to life. Good luck! How many did you guess correctly?
