Global Friends Coalition is educating, empowering, and embracing New Americans!

Ready, set, go!

Dear <<First Name>>,

The Community Picnic is fast approaching! We are DELIGHTED to be offering Somali, Nepali, and French foods at this year's picnic to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 22nd at University Park (rain location: Wesley United Methodist Church, 1600 4th Avenue North). I can't wait for our guests to bite into the rich curry--both chicken and vegetarian--served on a bed of rice. We are planning to offer Chatpate, a crunchy, spicy Nepali snack! Are you hoping the French crepes are back from last year? I bet so--and they are back! French Taste's crepes were so popular at last year's Community Picnic. Many people think hot dogs when they hear the word picnic and thanks to the Salvation Army, all beef hot dogs will be served. We are fortunate to have so many people step up and offer to help put on this picnic. If you're interested in volunteering, let us know.

UND's International Organization is our honorary co-host this year for the picnic. Come and find out about them.
We are appreciative of our sponsors including Retrax, Hugo's, the Grand Forks Herald, Steers, New Flavors Food Truck, The Salvation Army, Grand Forks Park District, and French Taste.

Now that it's September, we are excited to be back in full swing with all of our weekly classes including basic English on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m., and two sections of citizenship--a beginning and an advanced--on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. These classes are all held at the Kvasager Learning Center (1802 Continental Drive) and are part of our Path to Thriving Citizenship campaign that we will be highlighting over the next several months. Social Hour begins on Thursday, September 12th and will be offered every Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Sharon Lutheran Church (1720 S. 20th Street). Light exercise, conversation and snacks are part of Social Hour! Come and join us. A monthly sewing class will meet the second Tuesday of every month also at Sharon Lutheran Church beginning Tuesday, September 10th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. All of our classes are free and are open to all. We provide child care at the classes held at the Kvasager Center. We are grateful to our volunteers who give their time and talents.  We encourage you to get the word out about our class offerings, and come and participate!

If you'd like to donate to help us make the picnic a grand success, or contribute to our Path to Thriving Citizenship campaign, please visit our
