Our Musical Gift to You
We have sorely missed the collective sound of our performing groups this year, but one group have been working extremely hard to share the gift of music with our community. We would like to thank our amazing teachers Martin Krátký, Olivia Walsh and Sandra Wilmot and - of course - our wonderful string students for their presentation of G.F. Handel's Passacaglia. Also, huge thanks to Jessica Crawford and John Shippit for their editing skills.

Theory Programs are Back!
Theory is the foundational knowledge of music that helps students to understand the structure, notation and language of music. These classes are required to complete the Royal Conservatory exam certificates, and also serve to deepen the enjoyment of music-making. We strongly encourage students to join a group class; the social aspect of learning in a group, from our highly educated instructors, provides a thorough and fun learning experience. Our teachers are dedicated to teaching these foundational skills so your children fully understand them - not just teaching to the test. We offer full extracurricular support and provide extra private lessons (for a fee) on a case-by-case basis.
Students should begin theory classes once they have entered their second year of private lessons. More details arriving soon on the website!
Music Mentorship Program
Are you a student considering a future in the arts?
Are you a parent of a teen interested in pursuing a career in music?
Want to learn what different careers in the music industry could look like?
We are pleased to share an opportunity of discovery through the
Bridge & Wolak Music Mentorship Program
The Music Mentorship Program (MMP) is a virtual educational program designed for high school students who are exploring a future in music and arts performance/production. Led by acclaimed Canadian performers and professors, Michael Bridge and Kornel Wolak, students see exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews with leading arts professionals (performers, professors, tech crews) and join interactive discussions with live coaching and activities on Zoom. In a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere, they deliver highly informative content to guide aspiring musicians planning for their artistic and educational futures – at music school and in the arts industry.

Comings and Goings
Faculty Changes from Jessica Crawford
The end of the school year always brings some goodbyes, and this year we are wishing all the best to our guitar faculty member Alisa Anderson
, who has made the leap over to P.E.I. Flute teacher Jillian Broughton
is also leaving us to study audiology in Vancouver. Ali and Jillian will continue to be available for remote lessons. Also, our Youth Choir assistant director Gwen Plitt
has confirmed she will not be returning as her school district teaching location has changed - and she is getting married in August! It is so refreshing to hear such exciting positive plans, but we are sad to lose our wonderful colleagues. We wish them well and look forward to staying connected through music!
I am thrilled to announce a number of new faculty members, who will be joining us for September. Evelyn Krieger
and Sharon Pfenning
, both of whom have previously taught at KCMS, will be re-joining our piano faculty. Siobhan Raupach
will be teaching voice, Kevin Robinson
guitar, Emily Traversy
violin, and Jana Palmer
piano. These teachers bring a wealth of experience and expertise, and I encourage you to read their biographies on our website
and get to know them better! They are all accepting new students for September.
