AMR Identified as Top Priority By PM

In the Prime Minister's mandate letter to the Minister of Health, AMR was included as a top priority area for the federal government to invest in.

With the support of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, address the serious and growing public health threat of antimicrobial resistance by developing and implementing actions with partners to preserve the effectiveness of the antimicrobials that Canadians rely on every day.

The announcement came shortly after the release of CDC's report, When Antibiotics Fail, which provided new data on the potential impact of antimicrobial resistance in Canada. The report examines the current and future impact of AMR on the health and wealth of Canada through a One Health lens, and explores promising strategies to mitigate the issue.
