Vol 20: Issue 1: September 2016
Dear Friends of the House of Prayer,
As a new Floridian, I’m not used to hearing about tropical depressions heading in my direction! This being hurricane season, I better get used to it and bunker down like everyone else on the southwest Gulf Coast. Living in the subtropics, like everything else in life, often comes at a price!
On Saturday, August 13 we dedicated our revamped Native American Medicine Wheel. Like the labyrinth meditation walk, it is an ancient tool to help us reconnect with our deepest selves and what within us needs attention and healing. We are immensely grateful to Dr. Melinea Holman who sponsored and organized the restoration of the Wheel. Check it out on your next visit!
Last Saturday, August 27 the HOP Board of Directors and I met for our annual half day retreat. This included time for reflection/ritual, a tour of the property, a class on social media networking, lunch, and a two-hour business meeting. We are delighted to welcome Craig King, P.A. onto the board, along with returning members, Dr. Maria Roca (FGCU) and Barbara Darling. They provide an abundance of new energy and vision to help ensure the viability and expansion of our center.
As noted in the last newsletter, on Monday, September 12 I’ll be on the radio! As a voice in support of our local WGCR Community Campaign. If I, along with other non-profit representatives, can raise $1K for public radio during a one-hour show, our organization will be allocated 28 thirty second advertising slots over the next year. I’ll be on the 1 – 2 pm slot, so tune in and pledge a little something for public radio, and you will be indirectly raising awareness of all that we offer here at HOP retreat center.
