ACTIONS & UPDATES

Week of November 22, 2021

THE WEEK AHEAD

As we embark on a week that traditionally centers gratitude for
the people, circumstances, and blessings in our lives,

we thoughtfully remember the Wampanoags, who selflessly helped the early settlers enter their shores some 400 years ago.

We acknowledge the Wampanoags, with many other indigenous communities, do not reflect on the Thanksgiving holiday with a grateful heart, but as a day of mourning and unspeakable loss.

This is a day that is continually misrepresented in our
history books, classrooms, and homes.

We must teach the truth.

ATTEND THE DECEMBER MEETING
HELP SEARCH FOR OHIO'S NEXT SUPERINTENDENT!

State Board members are searching for a new superintendent of public instruction to replace Paolo DeMaria, who resigned from the position in September this year. DeMaria announced his resignation in July 2021, after serving as Ohio's superintendent for five years. Dr. Stephanie Siddens serves as the current interim superintendent, this after the anticipated interim superintendent, then-Deputy Superintendent John Richard, unexpectedly resigned in August.

YOUR INPUT IS NEEDED!
Attend the December meeting and offer YOUR thoughts on what qualities, expertise, and areas of knowledge the next superintendent should bring to the job. Examples include commitment to honest education, social and emotional learning, mental health, trauma-informed care, restorative practices, culturally responsive teaching, Whole Child Framework, etc.

Educators, superintendents, and professional experts are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting to provide input and needed expertise.
