As spelled out in our Production Alert from August of 2021, the Hourly rate for Caltrans encroachment review and inspection fees, currently $140/hour, will be changing effective January 1, 2023.  State law requires Caltrans to charge fees on a cost recovery basis.  A cost analysis in 2020 indicated the true cost to be $162/hour.  In order to cushion the blow of bringing rates up to their proper levels, the increase was phased in over the next two years.  See the accompanying flyer for details.

Effective September 1, 2021, the Hourly Rate was $110/hour 

Effective January 1, 2022, the Hourly Rate was $142/hour 

Effective January 1, 2023, the Hourly rate will be $162/hour

Starting January 1, 2024, the Hourly Rate will be adjusted annually to the rate determined based on the expenditures from the previous fiscal year

 

Permit applications accepted for review prior to January 1, 2023, will be charged at the current $140/hour rate.
