Senator Louis Pate, who represents parts of Wayne, Lenoir and Pitt counties, today announced his intention to file for re-election to the 7th District seat in the North Carolina Senate.  Pate, who is serving in his third term in the Senate, pledged to run a vigorous campaign focused on the issues of importance to the people of eastern North Carolina.
“Our local economy and education system have seen improvements during the past five years, but I am committed to improving opportunities for all the people of eastern North Carolina,” Pate said.  “For this reason, I will run for re-election to the Senate in 2016.  I will work hard, carry my message to the voters and fight every day for our shared values and priorities.”
Senator Pate is a former Major in the United States Air Force and enjoyed a successful career in the building supply business.  He has previously served in the North Carolina House, as Mayor of Mount Olive, and as Chairman of the Diaconate of Mount Olive First Baptist Church.  Louis and Joyce Pate have been married 49 years and have three children and nine grandchildren.  As Deputy President Pro Tempore, Pate has substantial influence on the policy direction of the Senate.
