Welcome New International Students!

This semester we have four new students from Botswana, China, Ecuador, Peru, and Switzerland. We're very happy you're here, best of luck on your studies here at Edgewood!

Tax Information

All students with F-1 and J-1 visas are expected to submit federal and state tax information for themselves and their dependents for each year that you live in the U.S.

Each year the Center for Global Education (CGE) provides a comprehensive tax guide for international students (link below). This guide is the only tax information that CGE provides for students. If you have specific questions or need individual assistance, please contact the resources listed on pages 3 & 4 of the guide.

2017 Tax Information for International Students

*Please remember that CGE staff does not offer individual tax advice.

OPT Workshop - Last chance for Spring semester!

When: Wednesday, February 8 from 3:00 – 4:00 pm.
Where: Predolin 220

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is an optional benefit that students in F-1 status can apply for through the U.S. government. This opportunity for temporary employment in the U.S. must be directly related to your major area of study. Students in F-1 status who will graduate in May or August 2017 who were not able to attend the first workshop should attend this one. All interested students must attend an OPT workshop before applying for OPT.

The next OPT workshop will be offered in Fall 2017.
For more information about OPT, read the F-1 Off-Campus Employment section on the Center for Global Education website.

Stay in Status
5 Reminders for the New Semester!

1. Notify CGE within 10 days of moving to a new address by submitting a Personal Information Update  to the CGE.  You don’t need to notify the Registrar’s Office—just submit the update to the CGE and we’ll take care of the rest!

2. Enroll in a full course load each semester (12 undergraduate, 9 Master’s credits, 6 doctoral credits). Last day to withdraw from a Spring semester class without receiving an F is April 7.
3. Email Sara if you change your major (your major field of study should be correctly reflected on your I-20). If by changing your major, you will need more time to complete your program, you should apply for an extension (see #4).

4. If you will not complete your academic program by the completion date on your I-20 or DS-2019, submit an Application for Extension of I-20 BEFORE the program end date.

5. Carry a valid passport (one that will not expire in the next 6 months).

Spring Break

No classes: March 10 – March 19

Residence halls will close on Friday, March 10 at 6:00 pm.  Residence halls will reopen on Sunday, March 19 at 12pm. International students needing housing during this time should contact the Office of Residence Life (608-663-3228, or Predolin 215) at least 1 week prior to break.  Dining Services hours will be limited during this time as well.

If you plan to travel outside the U.S. during Spring Break, you may need a travel validation signature on your I-20 or DS-2019.  Review the "Travel Outside The US" section of our website.
