DNR fish survey
Neal Godby, Fisheries Biologist, from the Michigan DNR Fisheries Division announced that they were conducting a fish community survey of Douglas Lake the first week in June.  The survey is part of their statewide Status and Trends survey program. The nets were set on Monday and checked daily.

Bob Vande Kopple from the U of M Biological Station wrote on Facebook that the last survey was done in 2000, and that every lake in Michigan is visited every so often.

The results of the survey will be available this coming winter.  The DNR will share the information, and we can pass it along to the membership in 2015.
From the U-M Biological Station: our buoy is now producing data every 10 mintues. You can see it here (click here).
Coming soon - Opinion Poll
As you know, the current public boat ramp on Douglas Lake is located at the end of Douglas Lake Rd next to the DLB (Douglas Lake Bar).  For years, the DNR maintained the boat ramp, but discontinued its support in 2013. They say the lack of parking and the lack of space for a proper turnaround is a liability problem for the DNR.  The Cheboygan County Road Commission (CCRC) owns the platted road end.  The road commission and the Munro Township maintain the area.  The DLIA donates money toward maintenance.

The DNR wants to find another location on Douglas Lake that is suitable for their design requirements; one that can be responsibly maintained by the DNR. They say that the design for Douglas Lake will be on a smaller scale, similar to the boat launch area on Lancaster Lake.

We want to get the pulse of our DLIA membership.  An opinion poll will be sent out soon.  Please take the time to review the information when it arrives, and take the opinion poll.
