2019 LTTB Nme (Lake Sturgeon) Celebration – August 24th

The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians’ Fisheries Enhancement Facility is hosting a Nme Celebration on August 24th 2019 at 12 noon at the Wolverine Village Park. This family event celebrates the return of this magnificent fish to the Sturgeon River. As in years past, this event is a potluck and refreshments are provided. Attendees get a chance to release about 200 fish and send then off with kind wishes as the fish begin their long journey.
In 2019, fisheries staff hope to release ~700 fingerlings into the Sturgeon River. If all goes as hoped, these fingerlings reside in the river for the next 2-3 years before “flushing” out into Burt Lake. Lake Sturgeon are very long-lived, and may possibly live more than 100 years. This long lifecycle means that sturgeon do not mature until they are 15-20 years of age. In turn, the fish released this year could possibly return to the river in 2034-2039.
Last Douglas Lake Merchandise Sale August 31
The last on-site merchandise sale is Saturday August 31st, 10-Noon. This is the last chance for holiday shoppers who have put off checking out those always-popular Douglas Lake gifts for family and friends.  While sales after this date will continue on-line, seeing the options in person is always a good way to judge colors and sizes.
Sales are held at the Pellston Locker, just off Douglas Lake Road East of US31 in back of the Pellston Lodge.
