DLIA Wants You! Douglas Lake Vegetation Survey Beginning Week of July 22nd
Volunteers Needed to Assist TOMWC with Lake Survey

DLIA and UMBS are jointly funding a survey of the status of vegetation growth on Douglas Lake. The Survey will be led by the TOMWC’s Dave Edwards, Monitoring and Research Director.
Dave is hosting a Training Workshop for survey volunteers on Friday, July 19th, 1-4PM at Nichols Laboratory, at the Biostation. (Nichols Lab is adjacent to the UMBS Administrative Offices, just past Gates Lecture Hall.)
You can park in Guest Parking or at Gates Lecture Hall.

Weather permitting, Dave plans to get the survey underway Monday, July 22nd.  The actual data gathering survey time is about two weeks, again weather dependent. Details about where to meet will come from Dave.
Volunteers note:  you do not need to commit to participate every day in the survey. Arrangements can be made for occasional participation if we know your schedule in advance.  If you would like to participate in data gathering/actual survey on the Lake but can’t attend the training workshop, please contact Dave at TOMWC for logistical details, at davide@watershedcouncil.org.
The link below to the 2012 Survey Report reminds everyone what the survey entails and what the results showed in 2012:

LTBB Odawa Indians Hatchery Tours  - July 19th and August 20th
The Little Traverse Bay Bands (LTBB) of Odawa Indians have a very active native fish stocking program in Northern Michigan lakes and streams.  Last October a small group of DLIA members toured their hatchery located just off Van Road in Levering. At our request, the tribe is again offering two hatchery tour dates for DLIA members and families. The indoor facility is crowded with large fish tanks so the tour size is limited.  Tour dates are at 11:00am on either July 19th or August 20th. There is still space available for both dates.  Kris Dey, Hatchery Manager, recently reported on the success they are having raising sturgeon.  Check these ancient fish out – you aren’t going to spot any sturgeon up close and personal in Douglas Lake!  Please email info@douglaslake.org to reserve space specifying date and number of people who want to attend.
Merchandise Sale July 20th
DLIA members, DL residents, visitors and friends had a busy day shopping the July 4th Merchandise Sale.  Now that you’ve had time to appreciate how much everyone likes their Douglas Lake gear, drop over to the DLIA Locker this Saturday, July 20th for the next merchandise sale. The new soft texture t-shirts and hoodies are very popular. Also new this summer: a new-design notecard featuring Marge Beaver’s Photography-Plus aerial photograph of Douglas Lake, new hats, new blankets, new decals, and naturally…sale items! Look forward to 2020 with a new Douglas Lake calendar featuring fantastic photos from our members.
Sales are held at the Pellston Locker, just off Douglas Lake Road East of US31 in back of the Pellston Lodge.
