Douglas Lake Merchandise Sales Need Volunteers

Summer is finally here and so is the first sale of 2022 for great Douglas Lake merchandise! We will be open for business from 10am to Noon on Saturday, June 11 at the DL "store" located behind the Pellston Lodge on Hwy 31.

After June 11, there will be 4 additional sales, July 3, July 23, August 13, and September 3. Please know, we are still in need of more volunteers for these sale dates. It's a great way to catch up with your lake friends and make new friends while helping support Douglas Lake - and it only takes a couple of hours! Please email Merchandise@Douglaslake.org or call/text Kelly Davis at 615-308-9086 to volunteer.

See you on Saturday!

The Story of the Maple Bay Loons at Home

A special feature of new Douglas Lake treasures this year is The Loons of Maple Bay. This is a fantastic book providing a close-up view and history of our own Maple Bay loons.
Get your copy and family gifts before they are sold out!
Watershed Council does Bessie Creek Stream Monitoring
The Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council has an aggressive program of stream, river and lake monitoring in our region. As many already know, the principal source of water into Douglas Lake is from Bessie Creek entering the lake in the Northwest corner of the Lake.  Drive along Silver Strand (left turn off Van Road onto Silver Strand) and just short of where Silver Strand intersects with Ingleside, you drive over Bessie Creek emptying into Douglas Lake.
Going further upstream, between Lancaster Lake and Silver Strand, you can follow Bessie Creek crossing back and forth under Ingleside several times as it moves toward the Lake.  That’s where I found Jerry Huey (who lives on Silver Strand), Karie Slavik (Associate Director of University of Michigan Biological Station - aka, UMBS) and Eric Kintz (local friend of Silver Strand residents) along with student volunteers from UMBS and Watershed Council wading in Bessie Creek checking out the water quality, the diversity of insects, aquatic bugs, and flora of interest, in Bessie Creek. Jerry is a current member of the Watershed Council Board of Directors.
On Douglas Lake, DLIA member Warren Woolcott is the lake monitoring volunteer.  More about his activities later this summer
Thanks to all for your work monitoring the health of Bessie Creek and Douglas Lake’s water.
