Have a Safe & Healthy Celebration!
Yes, it is possible to celebrate the Fourth of July in the midst of a pandemic.  Many of us will make this a family day; some will include fireworks displays. Mackinaw City still plans to have its fireworks display just after dusk if you are looking for entertainment but don’t forget the masks and social distancing.
Be safe! Be considerate of neighbors and pets! Stay healthy! Enjoy the predicted sunny and very warm day – with lots of water-proof sunscreen and anti-swimmers itch guard.
On the water? Please either wear or have handy enough life jackets/life preservers for everyone on the boat. Recently there was a rather spectacular pontoon boat fire on Burt Lake.  Apparently no one was injured but the boat was a total loss and everyone on board quickly jumped into the lake for safety.  Be sure your life preservers are readily available. You may not have time to unlock storage areas or dig around for life jackets!
Just one more caution:  please keep the speed down, both on the water and on the road.  Cars and ORVs:  please share the very dusty dirt roads cautiously with walkers, runners, and bicyclists.
Douglas Lake Merchandise Sale July 4th!!
Our first merchandise sale is finally here!  This Saturday, July 4 from 10am to Noon at the storage unit behind Pellston Lodge (our usual place).  We have some creative new merchandise with designs from Douglas Lake family!  You may notice some changes in the set-up, primarily because of our desire to keep everyone safe from this dreaded virus.  We ask that everyone wear a mask, even though we will be outside.  It will be difficult to control how many folks are there, but please try to keep a safe distance from your neighbors.
I can't wait to see everyone on Saturday!  Come prepared for some great shopping and visiting with friends and family (from a safe distance of course).

2020 Sunfish Races Start July 4th
Sunfish racing will start again this Saturday July 4th and continue through Labor Day weekend.  The plan is to race every Sat. at 2 PM with the last race starting about 4 PM.  We try to have multiple races and usually do about 4 or 5 each race day. Based on # of sailors available, weather & wind conditions, we are known to slide the races to Sunday at times. So if anyone you know is interested in joining us it is VERY IMPORTANT that they give their contact information to Dave Travis
We are always glad have more sailors and encourage any interested sailors to come out and join us.  We have all levels of experience and hope more will join in if only for one weekend.
It is important to note that we do all our last minute changes and cancellations by text and email.  So be sure to pass your contact info to Dave so as to receive any change of plans. If you or anyone you know is interested please contact Dave Travis at 231-622-1085 (cell) or dtravis5@mac.com.
Hope to see you on the water,
Dave
Munro Township Road Brine Delayed
Munro Township Supervisor has advised DLIA that due to unforeseen weather-related circumstances, road brining for Munro Township dirt roads is delayed until approximately July 9th. They know the road dust is frustrating for folks, but the July 4th holiday week-end and Cheboygan County Road Commission work schedules further delayed availability of road brine services.  Future weather permitting, Douglas Lake dirt roads should be brined on or about July 9th.
I-75 Resurfacing in Cheboygan County Starts July 6th
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest just more than $1 million to resurface (chip seal with fog seal) 9.6 miles of I-75 from the North Central State Trail bridge to north of Mullet-Burt Road in the northbound direction, and from the North Central State Trail bridge to north of M-27 in the southbound direction. (This is approximately from Riggsville Road to roughly Indian River. This work will require single-lane closures and traffic shifts.
The project starts July 6th; the estimated end date is August 28, 2020. For project details and a map, visit Mi Drive.
