The Trial of Lysistrata
Aristophanes’ Lysistrata – traitor or heroine? The First Feminist or Public Enemy Number One? On November 24, help decide the case of the People vs Lysistrata. Presented by Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Bard Association and the Embassy of Greece. Presided over by Justice Samuel Alito. The mock trial will take place at the Lansburgh Theatre. El Greco in the
National Gallery of Art
A 400th Anniversary Celebration
The National Gallery of Art presents an exhibition honoring the 400th anniversary of El Greco’s death, which will run through February 16, 2015. The exhibition includes the seven paintings by El Greco that the National Gallery has, as well as three others from Dumbarton Oaks, The Phillips Collection in Washington and The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore. Domenikos Theotokopoulos, universally known as El Greco, was born on the Greek island of Crete, where he achieved mastery as a painter of Byzantine icons.

Thomas Chimes
The Body in Spirals
Locks Gallery (Philadelphia) presents The Body in Spirals focusing on the explorations of geometry, alchemy, physics and metals within the career of Thomas Chimes (1921-2009). The exhibition will be on view November 7 through December 13, 2014. On November 15th, the gallery will host a conversation between Hood Museum Director Michael R. Taylor and Philadelphia Museum of Art Curator Matthew Affron. Thomas Chimes an influential painter and artist, whose work can be found in MOMA and the National Gallery of Art, was born to Greek immigrant parents in Philadelphia. Learn more

One Year on Kythera

American photographer Kristina Williamson spent a whole year on the Greek island of Kythera, back in 2004, as a Fulbright scholar. Her mission was to record in her photographs the island and the life of its inhabitants. The result was the book One Year on Kythera, published in 2014. She shared with us her thoughts and experience. Read more
