Hot-Hotter-Hottest Summer Edition of Yard Vibes

On Saturday August 18, during the hottest weekend of the year, we hosted our special summer edition of Yard Vibes in celebration of the London Olympics and the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence. The day started out with an irie Caribbean BBQ prepared by Toko MC and Planet Rose, which filled our yard with lots and lots of happy people. The event continued with the exclusive premieres of two documentaries on the remarkable Olympic achievements of Caribbean and particularly Jamaican athletes, Built to Last (2012) and Usain Bolt: The Fastest Man Alive (2012). Eventually, everybody was drawn inside to explode on the dancehall sounds of our crew and guest sounds Selektor Depender and Herb-A-Lize It. We’d like to thank everyone who was there for this hot-hotter-hottest summer night. The next edition of Yard Vibes will be hosted on Saturday December 1, so keep the date!

Photo Expo 'Celebrating Jamaica (50)' at LS74

Following the first showcase at the summer edition of Yard Vibes, the photo expo 'Celebrating Jamaica (50)' will be presented at the first exhibition of LS74 on Friday the 21th of September, 2012. LS74 is the new exhibition space of De Vrije Werkplek (The Free Workplace), a foundation facilitating creative freelancers with workplaces at Leidsestraat 74-I in Amsterdam. On September 21, LS74 will be officially opened with the first exhibition entitled 'Into the Open', where seven photographers will present their work, including the work of
Emiel Martens, Founding Director of Caribbean Creativity. 'Celebrating Jamaica (50)' joins the celebrations of Jamaica's 50th anniversary of independence by showcasing the beauty and diversity of Jamaica and its people. The eight photographs, all printed on canvas, are taken by Martens during his travels around the island between 2006 and 2012. They depict some of the many natural and man-made landmarks across different parishes – and the way people interact with these environments.

All canvas prints are available for sale. For more details, please email.
