August Dinner Recap

Our August 19 dinner was sponsored by members of Warwick Assembly of God.  We had beef tacos, mexican beans and rice, all of the fixin's and strawberry shortcake.  Everyone had a great time!!  Pictured above: "The Guys" did all of the cooking led by Frank of Frank's Pizza.

Upcoming September 2012 Dinner

Our September dinner will resume our Friday schedule.  The dinner will take place on Friday, September 21, from 5:00-7:00 pm.  This dinner is being sponsored by the Chosun Taekwondo Leadership Team.  Dinner will be chicken enchiladas, black beans and rice, corn on the cob, a garden salad and brownies.
The Warwick Community Kitchen relies on sponsors, volunteers and donations in order to provide free meals to anyone who would like them.  Our partnership with Vision Community Church provides the WCK with a kitchen to cook the food in and the space to hold the dinners.  If you are a member of a group that would like to sponsor a dinner or an individual that would like to volunteer or make a donation, please click on the following link, scroll down past the "Needs" list and fill out and then submit the interest form.  http://warwickcommunitykitchen.weebly.com/donations-and-volunteering.html
Suggestions and Donations Needed
The Warwick Community Kitchen is coming up on it's First Anniversary.  We would like suggestions on how to celebrate this milestone which will take place at our November 16 dinner.  To submit your suggestion, please email it to warwickcommunitykitchen@gmail.com.

We are planning for our December 2012 dinner as well.  Victoria would like to have another toy drive for all for the children that attend our dinners.  Last year, we had about 75 children attend the December dinner.  A bilingual Santa Claus came and delivered the toys to the children and will be doing so again.  If you would like to donate a toy please email us at warwickcommunitykitchen@gmail.com.  The toy should be delivered wrapped and labeled with the gender and appropriate age for the gift.

Girl Scouts Working With WCK to Earn Their Gold and Bronze Award.

For the next four months we are pleased to be working with two Girl Scouts who are working toward their Gold and Bronze Award.
Twelfth grade Ambassador Girl Scout Rebecca K. of Troop 788 is developing a cookbook of meals using items that one could get at our area Food Pantries.  Rebecca will be serving samples of three of the recipes in her cookbook.  For the month of September, Rebecca will be serving Vegetable Chili over White Rice.
Fifth grade Junior Girl Scout Barrett W. of Troop 350 will be providing the craft or activity for our younger guests.  For the month of September, Barrett has designed an obstacle course for the children.

Clothing Closet

The members of Vision Community Church decided to collect blankets and coats to offer at the first dinner.  Victoria ran with that idea and it expanded to clothing, coats, shoes, blankets, books, toys, toiletries and home goods.  Out of that the Clothing Closet was born.  Run by members of Vision Church, they are open on Thursday 10:00-1:00, Saturday 10:00-1:00, Sunday 11:30-1:00 and during every WCK dinner.  The items of the Clothing Closet are free of charge.  In an effort to support this ministry, Vision Church has also opened the Hope Chest, a thrift store where designer brand items can be purchased.  The Hope Chest is open at the same time as the Clothing Closet but not during the WCK dinners.  For information or questions email visionclothingcloset@gmail.com.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking to expand the Team/Board of the Warwick Community Kitchen in the positions of Fundraising/Event Coordinator, Sponsor/Donation Recruiter, Public Relations Coordinator and additional Chefs.  The Fundraising/Event Coordinator will coordinate fundraisers and events for the WCK.  They will have the help of other volunteers.  The Sponsor/Donation Recruiter will seek and secure sponsors for each dinner as well as seek and secure monetary and needed item donations.  The Public Relations Coordinator will reach out to members of the Community and make them aware of the dinners.  We are looking to increase attendance within our Senior Citizen population as well as make sure that the information about the dinners has been shared with the farm workers at each of the work camps.  We need additional chefs not only to assist our current chef but also to increase the number of dinners held each month.
