Warwick Community Kitchen

Started by Victoria Garloch in November 2011 as a Girl Scout Gold Award Project and as a Mission of Vision Community Church, the WCK offers monthly dinners to everyone in the community.

April Dinner Recap

Our April dinner was sponsored by a grant from the Sodexo Youth Foundation.  This grant was matched by Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes of Warwick.  We served chicken with mushroom gravy over white rice, grilled vegetable kabobs, salad, bread and "dirt cake" for dessert.  Children enjoyed our annual "After Easter Egg Hunt".  Each egg had a chocolate candy inside.  They were stuffed by our friends from Occupations, Inc., senior adults with physical and mental disabilities.  Students from Warwick Valley High School and the community came to help.  A flyer was distributed to those guests who wanted it, listing resources for local food pantries, soup kitchens and thrift stores.  Mr. Lon Tytell, reporter for The Warwick Dispatch was there to interview Victoria and others about the dinner.  Mr. Roger Gavan, reporter for The Warwick Advertiser also ran an article.  The dinner was held on April 26 so as to coincide with Global Youth Service Day.

Volunteers Needed

We are in need of volunteers at each of our dinners.  If you are a group or organization that may have sponsored a dinner or came and volunteered with us, please think about coming again.  Sponsoring an additional dinner is not necessary to participate!!  If you are interested please email Victoria at warwickcommuitykitchen@gmail.com.

Corporate Sponsors Needed

If you own a business or work for a business that would be interested in becoming a corporate sponsor of the Warwick Community Kitchen, please email Victoria at warwickcommunitykitchen@gmail.com.  We survive solely on donations or sponsorship.  We have not been as fortunate as last year in having each dinner sponsored.  A sponsorship packet is available if you would like one.

Upcoming May Dinner

Our next dinner will be Sunday, May 19, from 4:00-6:00 pm.  This is a change in the day and time.  For dinners in the months of May, June, July and August, we switch to Sundays as the farm workers work until dark on Fridays.  We will be serving Mexican Chicken Casserole, Mexican Rice, Salad, Bread and Apple Empanadas.  Children will be making a craft for their mothers.  This dinner is being sponsored by Faith, Olivia and Madison Scotto.

As part of Victoria's Sodexo grant required that she educate people and the community on childhood hunger, we developed two documents that have been made into posters and flyers.  The posters will be displayed at each dinner and can be used when fundraising.  The flyers will be given to potential sponsors.  We hope you like them.
The Warwick Community Kitchen relies on sponsors, volunteers and donations in order to provide free meals to anyone who would like them.  Our partnership with Vision Community Church provides the WCK with a kitchen to cook the food in and the space to hold the dinners.  If you are a member of a group that would like to sponsor a dinner or an individual that would like to volunteer or make a donation, please click on the following link, scroll down past the "Needs" list and fill out and then submit the interest form.  http://warwickcommunitykitchen.weebly.com/donations-and-volunteering.html

Girl Scout Troop 627
