Six Dutchess in the Kitchen:
A Seasonal Cooking Series
Cooking from BUDMO! A Ukrainian Summer Lunch with Anna Voloshyna

Dear Friends,

As we move towards August, it is time to announce our next monthly cooking class and celebrate the wonders of the late summer garden.

With the August heat, some of our juiciest summer treasures hit their stride⏤lush red tomatoes, zucchini, alliums and other signs of peak summer produce. The savory garden is singing and we humans can't wait to join in the chorus! And, of course, that brings us right to our next seasonal cooking class. We are absolutely thrilled to announce our next Six Dutchess in the Kitchen virtual cooking class, taught by a farm friend and woman we greatly admire.

Please join us on Sunday, August  21, 1pm - 3pm ET, for our next live, virtual cooking class, Cooking from BUDMO! A Ukrainian Summer Lunch with Anna VoloshynaSome of you may remember Anna from the Bake-A-Thon for Ukraine. She baked Ukrainian Pampushki in a lion-adorned shirt and spoke so movingly about her native Ukraine. We had many requests to invite Anna back as a solo teacher for one of our classes, and we did just that!

For those that don't know Anna, she is a Bay Area-based chef, blogger, culinary teacher, food stylist and photographer, born and raised in Ukraine. Since the war began, she's worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for Ukraine and advocate for an end to war in her home country. We have so often looked to Anna for ways we can help and also celebrate Ukrainian culture and traditions.

Today, we come together to celebrate a milestone for Anna, the publication of her very first cookbook, a celebration of Ukrainian culture and cuisine, called BUDMO! Recipes from a Ukrainian Kitchen, scheduled for release by Rizzoli in September 2022. Anna is going to give us a very special sneak peek into her book before its official release and share four seasonal recipes for a Ukrainian summer lunch!

During this 2-hour class, we'll not only cook a bountiful and delicious summer meal, but Anna will also talk about Ukrainian and Eastern European food history and culinary culture and share her traditions with you. Please note, for this class, we have partnered with Waka Foundation, who will match 1:1 every ticket purchased and donate the equivalent to City of Goodness, a charity of Anna's choosing that helps the most vulnerable mothers and their children in Ukraine.

Meet Anna Voloshyna

Anna Voloshyna was born in southern Ukraine in 1990 and relocated to the United States in 2011. She is a chef, blogger, culinary instructor, food stylist and photographer, who translates Eastern European cuisine and flavors into approachable dishes for the modern home cook. After coming to the Bay Area, Anna started working as a food photographer and stylist, helping chefs and culinary brands tell their stories through her camera lens. After numerous photoshoots and exciting cooking endeavors, Anna was finally offered a chance to unveil her own food-making talents through hosting wildly popular Eastern European pop-up dinners. Her Ukrainian varenyky feasts became a delicious sensation in the San Francisco culinary community. Anna has also been a tireless advocate and fundraiser for CookForUkraine and other organizations that help her native country in this time of war and make people fall in love with Ukrainian food through every little dumpling, fluffy garlic pampushki, and every single bowl of luscious borscht. Anna resides with her husband in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her first book, Budmo: Recipes from a Ukrainian Kitchen is scheduled for release by Rizzoli in September 2022. It is currently available for pre-order at most major booksellers.

Six Dutchess in the Kitchen Virtual Cooking Series

For folks new to our Seasonal Cooking Series, here's how it workseach month, we partner with a new teacher and profile different farm ingredients, always things that we grow on our farm and that are synonymous with the season. We build a menu around each ingredient and give it a regional twist, with cooking cultures spanning the globe. Because time is always in short supply on a farm, our cooking classes are built around simple, intuitive recipes and techniques that can easily become part of your cooking repertoire.

Our cooking classes are live, interactive, and virtual (conducted via Zoom), and offered usually on the third Sunday of each month.  Registration opens up one month prior to each class, and we always give our weekly Farm Note subscribers three days of priority sign-up. All classes are recorded and shared with students for future viewing, so if you are unable to attend live, not to worry, you can still cook or bake along on your own time.
