Reactive Power Control Requirements &
Increase in Approval Limits - 3 phase IES

Reactive Power Control Requirements commence this week

Just a reminder that from 30 September 2015, solar PV inverters rated higher than 3kVA and exporting to the grid, must have Reactive Power Control settings with a power factor at 0.9 lagging.

Additionally, a Connect request and Electrical Work Request (EWR) must be received by 30 September 2015 for current export installations with a ready for test date of no later than 30 September 2015.

For more information please refer to Installer Alert Volume 7 Issue 3 and the Connection Standard for Small Scale Parallel Inverter Energy Systems up to 30kVA found on the Energex website.

Increase in Approval Limits for 3 Phase Inverter Systems

From 1 October 2015, Energex will be raising its approval threshold for 3 phase inverter systems up to 15kVA.  The criteria for approval is as follows:
  • Applies to Clean Energy Council acccredited AS4777 compliant 3 phase inverters only, where generation across all phases is balanced. Three separate single phase inverters will not be approved to this limit.
  • Inverter reactive power set to 0.9 lagging.
Note: 2 phase systems greater than 5kVA will continue to be assessed manually, as will 3 phase systems in excess of 15kVA.  Where these systems fail our test criteria, the customer will still be given the option of a reduced size or nil-export connection.

These changes are to be incorporated into our Connection Standard for Small Scale Parallel Inverter Energy Systems up to 30kVA by early 2016, however the changes noted above will take effect from
1 October 2015.

The table below details the automated assessment and manual assessment for PV systems from 1 October 2015.
