NECF Workshops, Technical Update and Economy Tariff Rewards

New laws from 1 July 2015 - how will they affect you?

The National Energy Customer Framework (NECF) comes into effect in Queensland from 1 July this year and it will change the way electrical contractors interact with their customers and Energex. To assist in understanding the changes, Energex has scheduled a series of workshops for electrical contractors.

What does this mean for me?

NECF requirements will affect new connections and alterations to existing connections.  This means that from 1 July2015, a customer connection agreement will be required prior to submission of an Electrical Work Request (EWR). Due to the technical nature of the information required on this agreement, most customers are likely to seek the assistance of their electrical contractor to complete the agreement.

It will affect all types of services: residential, commercial, and industrial including unmetered supply. Non-compliance with the new laws will result in delays in completing work.

When is a connection agreement required?

A connection agreement will be required for:
  • All new connections; and
  • Where there is a  change to an existing  physical connection, which includes:
    • Point of attachment relocations
    • Upgrade of carrying capacity of the cable e.g., 1 phase to 3 phase.
It does not apply to meter or tariff changes.

Be NECF-ready: Register for a workshop today!

Energex is providing workshops in the coming months to discuss the upcoming NECF changes which include the required changes to the Electrical Partners’ Portal and we encourage you to join us in this discussion. The workshops will run from 3.30pm - 5.00pm and light refreshments will be served. A full list of dates, venues and other details are available on our website.

Technical Update

Electrical Partners Portal - select the right option on EWRs for connections in the permanent position

To connect new premises in a final permanent connection, where the switchboard is located in the permanent position prior to construction and where a temporary builder’s supply is not required, please select "Provision Network Connection to Permanent Installation".
Please only select "Provision of/Supply (TBS)" for the connection of a temporary builder’s supply/pole for the purpose of construction. Selecting the incorrect type of request can result in unnecessary fees being charged, and possible delays in work being completed.

Economy tariff rewards - still available for your customers

Help your customers and your own business by switching household hot water systems and pools to economy tariffs.  Customers that connect their new or existing hot water system to an economy tariff can claim a $200 reward from Energex. Customers can also claim an additional $250 reward for switching their swimming pool to an economy tariff.
