   MAYOR'S LETTER

   Greetings from Village Hall!

To keep you better informed about all the activities           and updates from the Village, we are launching this         monthly emailed newsletter. Please encourage your         friends and neighbors to sign up!

Since I was sworn in as Mayor on May 21, a lot has           happened. I signed the construction contracts for the       long-awaited Village Sewer Project. We expect to             break ground before Thanksgiving. Two-week                   schedules will be posted to the website, and we'll have     a groundbreaking ceremony as well. Stay tuned!

The union contracts for the Highway and Police Departments, good through May 2024, were finalized, approved, and signed.

We had a beautiful day for Hardscrabble Day which returned in person this September. A welcome activity after moving the event to virtual last year. A big thank you to the Hardscrabble Committee, especially given the significantly shorter planning time. And thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors who helped make it all possible.

We had a wonderful season of Friday nights with free music at the Eat 'N Go! Thank you to Gregg Stolarik and Todd Baright for making this happen well into October.

I'm excited to announce that our police department has received their body-worn cameras. See photo below. The Team is being trained on their use and now have them active when on patrol.

We've had a summer and fall filled with important projects carried out by the highway department. Water valves have been located, leaky valves have been replaced, catch basins cleared out all while keeping the grass mowed and the garbage and brush picked up regularly.

I want to say a special thank you to Highway Foreman, Dan Streib. Dan has announced his retirement at the end of November after 28 years with the Red Hook Highway Department. Dan knows this Village inside and out as well as above ground and below. Thank you, Dan, for all you've done for this Village. I've appreciated working with you, and I wish you the very best in your well-deserved retirement.

We have an opening for Village Trustee. For personal reasons, Trustee Will Noonan resigned in the end of September. Will contributed a great deal to the Village Board in the time he was here. Thank you, Will! Should anyone who lives in the Village have an interest in being considered for Village Trustee, please contact me at the Village Hall.

Veteran's Day is Thursday, November 11. Please join the VFW Post 7765 at Memorial Park at 6pm for a ceremony to honor our veterans.

In the spirit of encouraging engagement and participation in your village government, the Red Hook Library is hosting a Committee Sampler where you will learn about the committees’ missions, the time commitment necessary, and how to get involved
.

It is my honor to be your mayor. I am grateful to live in this wonderful community.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

CELEBRATING HARDSCRABBLE DAY

Hardscrabble Day was held on Saturday, September 18th year, a welcome return after having to go virtual last year.

The theme this year was a celebration of Red Hook's Apple Harvest with apple-themed decorations and activities. The Parade honored 6 families who make orchards such an important part of our Red Hook history. Kids were treated to family friendly entertainment and designated Kidscrabble areas throughout the Village filled with crafts, activities and carnival games. There were food trucks and vendors as well.

The day ended with a free concert starting with the Rock Academy from Woodstock, ending with everyone dancing to Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra! And an added bonus was a Cider House where local cider and beer were sold.

A big thank you to all of the volunteers and sponsors of the event. Trustee Kjarval led a committee of dedicated volunteers who put together a fun-filled day for everyone with only a few months to plan. And our generous sponsors made it all possible, especially our lead sponsors. Thank you also to the Old Dutch Garden Club for the decorations around the Village.

Planning for next year will begin soon. Anyone interested in joining the Events Committee should contact Amy Smith at amy@redhooklibrary.org.
