Computer Science Makes its Seventh Grade Debut at YES Prep Gulfton 

Last May, we shared news that YES Prep Gulfton received a $20,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation and Project Lead The Way (PLTW) to start the PLTW Computer Science track at their campus. During the summer, Gulfton teachers Heidi Leventhal and Lanese Giles attended the summer training offered at the University of Texas at Tyler and kicked off the program this school year with 53 seventh graders total in two classes.

Transformative Study Abroad Experience in the Dominican Republic

“We are now landing at the Santo Domingo Airport,” announced the pilot over the intercom system.  As the plane careened towards the lush green island of Hispaniola, I was eager to step out into the Dominican Republic. Although I had skimmed countless brochures and websites beforehand, I still did not know what to expect because it was my first time traveling abroad.

Key Takeaways from School Leaders of Color Conference
