Welcome to the Uniquely Healthy May Newsletter

How lovely has it been to have some sun eh? I know I probably talk far too much about the weather but it really does make me feel so much better when the sun shines! However, I know that the warmer weather brings with it a whole host of issues when it comes to body confidence. The idea of shorts and bikinis is enough to have you hot footing it to the gym and doing the latest detox diet, but I'm not here to tell you to do that.

I've had a bit of an epiphany these last few weeks when it comes to us and our bodies. You know what?
You are perfect just the way you are.

You don't need to 'slim down for summer' or do the 'superduper superkini diet'. I am so fed up of us being told that we should always be seeking to change ourselves and lose weight.

You can still feel confident this summer without going down the route of fad diets and slimming pills. Focus on your health, your relationship with food and how you feel about your body and everything will come naturally.

If you do feel that you would be healthier and more comfortable losing a little weight, bust out of that diet mentality and try dialing it up instead.

If you feel that you would benefit from some support to do that, then you know I can help! Sometimes it is difficult to know where to start, or how to navigate all the different nutritional approaches out there. That is where I come in! Joanne's story really demonstrates the difference that health coaching can make - feeling better in your body, natural weight loss, improved mood and positivity.

Right now, the 6 month coaching programme has 40% off, don't delay - click the button below to book your completely free, no obligation health history consultation to find out more.

Joanne's Health Coaching Journey

'I would recommend health coaching to anyone that wants to change their life and not be on a constant diet!’

‘I have been on many diets and none have worked.  I had suffered Post natal depression and put on weight and could not see a way through it all and felt that I was not going to see my children grow up.  I suffered aches and pains, my head felt foggy, I was constantly tired and irritable.

Since becoming one of Laura’s many clients I feel energised, able to make the right decisions about food, my head feels lighter.

I can still eat my treats but do not beat myself up about it and I finally accept my body the way it is.  I am no stick insect but I’m healthy and curvy!

I now have far less sugar cravings.  I used to suffer regular headaches which have almost disappeared, and I also feel more positive and brighter in myself.  I’m a lot happier, my husband will vouch for this (oh and my sex life is sooo much better)!!

I am finally happy with my body and my body looks slimmer. One of the biggest changes is being able to feel in control of my bad days and knowing that the ‘good’ food I eat is helping me control things.

Healthy Living Prompts for May

  • Plant something! Even if you don't have a garden you can make up some potted flowers or herbs. It's a great way to feel connected to nature.
  • Think about any changes you need to make to your skin care routine for the coming summer months - moisturisers and make up should be lighter than those you use in the winter.
  • Try a variety of fruit you have never eaten before
  • Experiment with salads - now that the weather has finally warmed up salads make a great lunch option. Try some toppings like a little fresh fruit, feta or mixed seeds for added texture and health boost!

Never forget the power of a positive mental attitude!

Black Bean and Vegetable Chilli Recipe
This is a really simple vegetable packed chilli recipe that is super healthy and low in calories and fat, whilst also being very filling.

Ingredients
  • 1 medium onion
  • 4 celery ribs
  • 1 large courgette
  • 2 large peppers
  • 2 tins of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tin of black beans (or 1 cup of home cooked)
  • 1 tsp of hot chilli powder - or to taste
  • Optional - 1 cup of homemade chicken bone broth
If you have a slow cooker, then simply add all the ingredients into it and cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3 hours. If you are making this in a pan soften the onions over a medium heat with a little oil, add the celery, courgette and peppers and fry for 5 minutes before adding the rest of the ingredients and simmering for 30 minutes. Serve topped with avocado, grated cheese, sour cream or Greek yoghurt.
