UNIQUE PARTNERSHIP TO ADVANCE
HEALTH RESEARCH
The WE-SPARK Health Institute officially launched this week formalizing a partnership that has been a decade in the making.

The collaboration will elevate health research strengths from across the Windsor-Essex region and beyond to establish research pipelines that address regional health issues, advance innovation and technology, and drive outcomes that support healthier communities.

MARKING A MILESTONE IN THE MOVEMENT
MATTERS JOURNEY
Patients involved in the Movement Matters program are covering plenty of ground at WRH since the program began in September; they have clocked a total of 659 km, with the help of staff. That is equal to the distance from Windsor to Joyceville, Ontario, just outside of Kingston.

To mark the program’s first 6 months of success, the SOP team visited all participating units to recognize their work. Former patient Dave MacDonald, who was part of the pilot program on 4North at Met, joined part of the celebration and thanked staff for their help in getting him strong enough to qualify for a lung transplant.

WORLD KIDNEY DAY
Thursday, March 12 is World Kidney Day. To mark the occasion, the dialysis team is setting up kidney screening booths at both campuses. Physicians and nurses from the renal team will be available to discuss prevention and risk factors and take your blood pressure.

Stop by and visit the teams Thursday between 9 am and Noon.  They will be located in the Vendor Kiosk at both campuses.

This year’s flu vaccine is 57.5 percent effective in preventing hospitalizations among children 6 months to 17 years old.  In the US this season, there have been more influenza-related pediatric deaths (136) than any other flu season since reporting began, with the exception of the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.
