Commons debate on leasehold.
Tuesday December 20

The MP patrons of LKP / Carlex Sir Peter Bottomley and Jim Fitzpatrick have secured a three-hour debate on ALL leasehold issues on Tuesday December 20 2016. This is the first time residential leasehold has been debated by Parliament in such detail since the 2002 Act.

Now is the chance to get your MP to attend and contribute to this debate. Please do this ASAP.

The debate has arisen owing to the scandal of plc housebuilders building monetising leasehold houses with doubling ground rents. Some are unsellable, owners claim.

Sir Peter Bottomley has indicated that, if called to speak, he will name game-players in leasehold in privileged setting of the Commons.

Sir Peter said on Wednesday at the All Party Parliamentary Group on leasehold reform:

"If I am called to speak I intend to name some names.

"I don’t mean to go about smearing people.

“There are some issues that potentially give rise to defamation.

“Defamation actions actually have to be damaging, untrue and not privileged; I want to say things which are true; are privileged; and which might, having been brought out into the open, prevent people doing things that are wrong.”

Sebastian O'Kelly

Taylor Wimpey more greedy than the ground rent ‘Mr Smallweeds’ (and so are other plc housebuilders)

By admin on Dec 11, 2016 06:43 pm

Groundrentsforsale.com probably does not regard itself as dilatory in furthering the interests of freehold investors who feast off ground rents. Sounding like Dickens’ unappetising Mr Smallweed – “Shake me up, Judy!” – in Bleak House, it says: “When you draw up your leases you should take the opportunity to enhance the value of your building. […]
