"Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining.
Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.

1 Peter 4:8-10

Do you remember the Shallowford Drive-In movie theater? The North 85 Twin Drive-In sat on the access road between Shallowford and Chamblee Tucker and played movies on two giant screens. They charged by the car, so the more people you could pile into your jalopy, the better. The combination of buttered popcorn, Herbie the Love Bug, and the crackly speaker you hung from the driver’s window was a slice of John Hughes heaven.

Last Sunday morning was another little slice of heaven for me. Seeing so many of you in the flesh made me realize just how much gathering as a church means to me. I always encounter God in worship. But last Sunday I was reminded how much I see God through my relationship with each of you. It wasn’t exactly the same—we didn’t gather around the fellowship table nibbling on Fall treats. But my goodness, God’s presence was palpable. God thickened that holy space which separated us and kept us safe from harm.

(And never EVER did I imagine I’d lead a Call to Worship from the back of a pickup truck. So there’s that.)

I hope you’ll join virtual worship again this Sunday, where I’ll be preaching about Joseph and Jeremiah and Howard Thurman’s grandmother. At 12:30 we’ll gather live on Zoom to dig deeper into the morning’s message. See the bottom of today’s newsletter for the Zoom details.

The following Sunday, November 1, come back to the church parking lot at 11am for communion and worship, Drive-In Style. Though Star Wars won’t be the feature film, you will get to see your besties and God will be the star of the show.

Peace of Christ,
Rev. Jody Andrade

Note the time change (it’s the end of Daylight Saving Time) to make sure your clocks are changed, or you’ll arrive an hour early! Once again, you can choose to remain in your car and tune in through your car radio station 89.9, or bring a chair and a mask (and a jacket or blanket in case it's chilly) and sit next to your vehicle. Your three pastors will lead worship, Paul Shane will be sharing music, and there will be a Parking Lot Prayground for children. You must pre-register your child by noon on Friday, October 30th through Realm at this link. Read over these guidelines so you’ll know what to expect. We hope to see you there!

Stewardship Campaign 2021
By this time you should have received in the mail your invitation to make a commitment to financially support PHPC in 2021. God is at work in this congregation and community even now - pandemic and all. Your Session, staff, and pastors believe that God is calling us to respond faithfully, with all boldness and freedom, with trust and hope, for whatever next year may look like. Prayerfully discern what amount God is calling you to give, and return your pledge commitment by mail, by emailing pledges@pleasanthillpc.org, or bring it in person to our parking lot service on November 1, Dedication Sunday. Contact Pastor Katie Day at katie@pleasanthillpc.org of 904-635-0990 to discuss your giving or any questions you may have.

The park is about a 45 minute drive from church.  The trail is a 3.1 mile loop with a moderate elevation gain of 600 ft.  All are welcome but please check out the description at Atlantatrails.com or Alltrails.com to decide if the hike is right for you. Please use our Realm database to sign up here. If you have any trouble with the sign up,  contact the church office, office@pleasanthillpc.org. Contact Deb LoPresti if you would like to share your ideas about future hikes.

Advent Videos Needed
Your pastors have big dreams for Advent 2020 and need your help! While it remains to be seen what in-person opportunities there will be during the Advent/Christmas season, we plan to continue offering online worship. We need lots of you to help us make this special. Here’s how you can help: Record a short video of yourself holding a lit candle (you can have each person in your family make separate videos or do it all together in one) on your phone (horizontal) saying: “I dream of…” That’s it! Three words and you holding a candle. All videos must be submitted by November 16. You can click here to upload to our Google Drive folder or e-mail to jennie@pleasanthillpc.org.

Need to come to the church building? Wear your mask!
For the safety of our staff who need to do essential work onsite at PHPC’s campus, please plan to wear a mask if you need to come inside the building while someone else is there. A sign is posted on the door to remind you, and there is a basket of disposable masks inside the lobby if you forgot your own. Thank you for your courtesy!

Friendship Pad
Just a reminder to please use the online Friendship Pad on our website to record your attendance at worship, no matter what time or day you watch the service. We'd love to know you are worshiping with us.

Adult Church School Classes Offered

Our adult church school classes are ongoing. If you’re looking for a way to learn and grow in faith, check out the class descriptions and contact information on our website. All three meet virtually on Sunday mornings from 9:40-10:40 am.

Guidelines for Outdoor Small Group Gatherings

As fully explained in the email sent to the congregation on September 17, our Session has approved outdoor gatherings of small groups (no more than 12 people) on or off PHPC property with certain conditions.
Social distancing of at least 6 feet is to be maintained at all times (which means no hugs, hand shaking, or other physical contact) and all participants must wear masks. All gatherings are BYOE: Bring Your Own Everything (chair or blanket to sit on and a drink or snack if you choose) and will last no more than 90 minutes. Access to the church building will be for emergency only; please plan accordingly. All on or off campus gatherings are to be scheduled through the Church Office. Group leaders will be responsible for managing and tracking attendance and communicating guidelines and safety precautions in advance to all participants.
