RHN Families With Children-  We wanted to make sure you are aware of a few fun events going on in and around Russian Hill this month:

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12 from 2:30-7pm: JEAN PARKER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FUNDRAISER @ ENTER THE CAFE
Enter The Café (1401 Powell Street) is hosting a happy hour to help fundraise for Jean Parker Elementary School, a public school near Russian Hill.  The event features boba drinks, matcha lattes, milk tea floats and more.  The café will donate $1 to Jean Parker for every milk tea with boba, milk tea float, or matcha latte purchased! 10% of all other sales donated to the school. Treat a Teacher! Coffee vouchers for sale to thank a Jean Parker teacher.  Asian Street Market raffle tickets available for sale!  For more information visit

SUNDAY OCTOBER 15 from 11am-5pm: ASIAN STREET FOOD MARKET BENEFITTING JEAN PARKER ELEMENTARY
Not in the neighborhood but also benefitting Jean Parker Elementary School, consider visiting the Asian Street Food Market at Soma SrEat Food Park (428 11th Street).  Check out flavors from Japan, Korea, China, the Philippines, India, and beyond all at one event! Get ready for authentic, crave-worthy ramen, milk tea, lumpia, samosas, and more! The park will be buzzing with music from local, up-and-coming Asian American artists and DJs. Strut your stuff at the Korean Pop dance class, peruse local pop-up shops, dive into activities for the kids, and much more!  For more information visit

SATURDAY OCTOBER 21st from 11am-3pm: SHERMAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PUMPKIN FEST
Sherman Elementary School is a nearby public K-5 school on Union Street at Franklin.  The Pumpkin Festival is Sherman's fall family carnival and fundraiser.  It is free and open to the public; donations are appreciated.  Past years have featured carnival games, a bouncy slide, a haunted house, pumpkin carving, and a fantastic barbecue.  It  is sure to be a great time for all! Halloween costumes encouraged!

SATURDAY OCTOBER 28th from 3-6pm: POLK STREET MERCHANTS / RHN TRICK-OR-TREATING HALLOWEEN EVENT
Please bring your costumed kids and pets out to the beginning of the parade at Candy Store (1507 Vallejo at Polk) or join us anywhere along the route on Polk Street all the way from Union Street to California Street!  Free to kids of all ages and pets! As you walk along the route picking up treats from local businesses (and hopefully thanking them for their participation and support of families in Russian Hill!), please stop in for pumpkin decorating and games from 3:30 pm-6:00 pm at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 1755 Clay Street between Polk Street and Van Ness Avenue. Pumpkin decorating is free but PLEASE REGISTER so we can have enough pumpkins on hand.  To register and see a map of the parade route and the spooky participating merchants, go to colehardware.eventbrite.com or call 415-432-2665.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 29th from 2-5pm: NORTH BEACH HALLOWEEN EXTRAVAGANZA @ JOE DIMAGGIO PLAYGROUND
Join your North Beach neighbors on Sunday October 29, 2017, from 2:00 - 5:00 pm for the annual Halloween Extravaganza at Joe DiMaggio Playground. This year marks a DECADE that the Friends of Joe D have brought neighbors and friends together for some pre-Halloween fun. This year they will have a haunted house, performers from Circus Bella, the Bubblesmith, bouncy houses, crafts, food for purchase, costumes and music, and signature in-playground Trick or Treat Street. If you would like to participate in Trick or Treat and set up a "block" on the blacktop, please see these guidelines, and email friends@dimaggioplayground.org to register.  The beautifully remodeled playground and park has made this event even more special, bringing in over 400 people last year. And they have managed to keep it a free event all these years through the generosity of local sponsors and donors. Please help them continue this Halloween tradition by making an individual donation or by sponsoring the event. Sponsors have the option of being featured on event posters, online promotions, and day-of displays.
