Healthy Leaders Lead Healthy Churches

Our time together in Orlando for the Healthy Growing Churches Leadership Network (HGCLN) was impactful in many ways. I heard many of you share that this year was more significant than any of our previous years. After a couple of weeks to reflect on it, I would suggest that this year’s HGCLN, our 5th Annual gathering, expressed our values better than ever before. This year we highlighted our value, “Healthy leaders lead healthy churches”.

Not too long ago, I had a conversation with a pastor of a large church who exited ministry due to some foolish choices he made…now years later he says it simply:
Having gone through what I have been through I am more convinced than ever that coaching and consulting must first address the issue of health among the pastor and staffs of the churches. [...] So often we just assume the leader is healthy, which as we both know, is many times a false assumption.
So we dealt with healthy leaders at this year's HGCLN…and did we deal with it. I felt each of our plenary speakers, as well as each individual breakout speaker, attacked this issue head on from their unique perspectives. You simply can’t have a healthy church without a healthy leader!

Now the hard work begins…because as we all know hearing something is not the same as doing it and doing something once is not enough to change a behavior. Healthy leaders are healthy because they do things which encourage health. They build healthy habits and routines that encourage health. I hope you find encouragement to be a healthy leader through HGC. Few of us are equipped to be healthy on our own, so we need each other to be healthy.

By the way, we need help improving what we do as a network. If you haven't taken a minute to give us feedback on this year's LN, please take time to complete the quick survey. This will help ensure we get better every year. And mark your calendar for February 17-19, 2016 in Safety Harbor, Florida.

If you are going to be at the “Be Bold” conference in OKC during June 22-25, please plan on coming to our Champions Banquet on Tuesday, June 23.  We will be celebrating together what God is doing through the network and talking about how we can work better together.  This is a free event BUT seats are limited and you must register here. If you would like to help make this event possible by sponsoring a table, contact Melissa Olinger.

It is a lot of fun doing ministry with people who share the same vision of changing the world through Christ producing healthy churches that multiply.

What do YOU say?

We have seen the community aspect of HGC grow these past few years and we want to encourage that through this monthly newsletter, more frequent meet-ups and more collaborative work…because we really are better together!

We would like to address issues that you want addressed in this newsletter.  So if there is something that you would like us to deal with, please email Heidi Tarin, as she is the point person for all of our communication.
