A look back at 2021

Dixie Fire Support & Services

Plumas County endured a very difficult year. There were economic setbacks due to Covid, and the Dixie fire was devastating for many residents, businesses and organizations. If you are in need of support navigating recovery from the fire, the following agencies provide information and services:

REACH OUT, we’d like to hear from you: In response to the Dixie Fire, FRTA Board members contacted many lodging providers via a survey and phone calls to further the work by the Almanor Foundation https://almanorfoundation.com/ for wildfire relief. However, efforts remain a challenge and we would like to hear from you about your business status.

Accomplishments in a Challenging Year

Strategic Planning Momentum

  • In January & February, focus groups were convened and members from the community offered valuable input with regard to activities and events, the arts, and recreation in the tourism district. Carl Ribaudo of SMG Marketing led the process and results were woven into the current strategic plan. Recordings of the focus group sessions are available HERE.

  • Granicus, is an organization specializing in “powerful, cloud-based technology to connect people and government.” Granicus services were employed to assist Plumas County in identifying non-compliant (not collecting the district assessment) lodging providers in the county. FRTA is working with the county to identify and send letters out to these lodging providers and bring them into compliance.

  • BRANDING: Stuart Patterson of Colorola worked with the Board to design a logo that was also vetted by community members. The logo has been adopted and will be used on social media, the website and on stationery and other collateral.

The Promise of 2022

  • Branding is in progress: The process of adopting a brand has evolved over the last 4 months. Designs have been evaluated and refined and public input garnered. We are very close to selection, stay tuned!

  • FRTA STRATEGIC PLAN: Plans are underway to start promoting sustainable tourism in line with the newly approved strategic plan. Click HERE for details!

  • The FRTA Annual Report will be presented to BOS in March and sent in the Spring newsletter. Look for it in April!

  • The new website is slated for a May 2022 launch. It is being designed to capture the attention of potential visitors and increase conversion rate for visitors. While the new website is under development, the new landing page is functional and capturing traffic. www.discoverplumasconty.org
