Dear FUMC friends,
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved member, Barbara Smith. Barbara was more than just a treasured part of our congregation; she played an instrumental role in our Music and Arts Committee. As a devoted member of both the choir and the handbell ensemble for many years, her unwavering passion and commitment to the arts greatly enhanced the cultural fabric of our church community.
Through her tireless efforts, Barbara brought numerous talented artists to our church, elevating our events and inspiring us all. She will be fondly remembered for her warm spirit, her unwavering commitment to the church, and her genuine love for music and the arts.
As we mourn her loss, let us also celebrate Barbara's life and the lasting impact she has left on our congregation. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time, and we pray for strength and comfort as we navigate through this period of grief. If you wish to send cards, please address them to Barbaras daugher Allison Dalziel P.O 283 Weston, VT 05161
Barbara B. Smith, formerly of Kalamazoo, MI passed away peacefully at her residence in Basking Ridge, NJ, at the age of 91. Barbara was a talented musician and avid patron of the arts. A conservatory graduate of Oberlin College, she taught piano students for over 20 years, while raising her family north of Chicago. In 1984 Barbara moved to Kalamazoo, where she thrived as a dedicated volunteer, and a member of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra League. She was a founding influence behind the Instrument Petting Zoo, an interactive, hands-on symphony outreach program that brings demonstration instruments to local school children. In 2013, Barbara moved to a retirement community in New Jersey. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Edwin Smith (Oct 1999). She is survived by her loving family: daughter, Allison (Larry) Dalziel, grandchildren Libby Dalziel and Blair Dalziel, and her son Randall (Mary) Smith. A private family interment will be held at a future date in Kalamazoo. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra League or the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
