July Worship Transition

Dear Friends,

We find ourselves in a strange time of transition as we recognize that across the world the COVID 19 pandemic varies widely with some regions dealing with outbreaks and others lifting restrictions. We commit ourselves to prayer in these days of a lingering pandemic and embrace the ways of grace and understanding for all. For the community of First United Methodist Church, we will continue with a care filled approach that centers on loving our neighbors and protecting marginalized and vulnerable populations. This is a fluid situation, and we are focused on being responsive and making appropriate changes to our practices and protocols for in-person gatherings, both outdoors and inside the church building. At this time, we will:

  • Ask persons to wear masks as they enter and move about the church building to protect vulnerable populations that share the common space.
  • Request that sign-in sheets be used as you enter the church.
  • Sing on Sunday mornings in worship and we will continue to ask people to remain masked to insure hospitality and protection for all.
  • Make masks optional but continue with physical distancing at the outdoor prayer services on Wednesday evenings which will continue to be an opportunity to sing and pray together.
  • If you have COVID 19 symptoms, you can show love of neighbors by refraining from these in-person activities.
Throughout June we have held “Worship and Watch” at 10am on Sunday mornings in the sanctuary. This has primarily been a watching of the prerecorded worship. As we enter the month of July, we will add more live elements making this a fuller worship experience and continue to stream our worship on YouTube and through our website. Our aspiration is to offer meaningful worship experiences for in person and online.

These changes will be an adjustment for all, and we ask you to continue to pray for our worship leaders and allow for grace as we know that there may be hiccups along the way.

As we transition into this hope-filled future, let us live into our mission of celebrating, experiencing, and sharing God’s love.
