Dear Members, Partners and Friends

If you have not yet had a chance to take a look at all of the GlobalPhilly 15 events, go now to the Global Philadelphia web site! GPA’s diverse members have lined up a wide range of over 150 stimulating, meaningful and entertaining events.

No need to wait until September 15th – get started NOW with the Exposition’s “Warm-Up Events” (see details and links below in this newsletter)

– including three annual festivals, arts and culture lectures and exhibitions, World Heritage Cities Solidarity Day, global business partnerships, and the bygone culture of the Dock Street market.

Make sure to spread the word to your family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances – this is an extraordinary opportunity to experience how global the Greater Philadelphia region has become!

A shout out of deeply felt gratitude goes out to our generous sponsors, media partners and GPA members! It is only through their partnership that this 60-day showcase of what makes our city so outstanding is possible!

From the GlobalPhilly 2015 Blog

The vision of the early 19th Century Philadelphia City Planners responsible for the Benjamin Franklin Parkway was truly grand. The scenic boulevard was to be the cultural artery of Philadelphia. The renowned Museums which line the parkway ensure that the Benjamin Franklin Parkway is in fact an artery with which citizens and visitors alike use to explore the cultural heart of Philadelphia. The flags which adorn the Parkway represent the global citizens who call Philadelphia home.
The GlobalPhilly15 Expo (September 15 – November 15) will showcase over 200 globally themed events. Global Philadelphia Association’s members will host these events throughout Greater Philadelphia and around the world. Thus, the Parkway is more than a means of facilitating transportation, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway is a magnificent allegory of Philadelphia’s historical visionaries and even the contemporary citizens who make Philadelphia a vibrant cosmopolitan city.

Solidarity Day of the World Heritage Cities

The Organization of the World Heritage Cities was created on September 8, 1993, in Fez, Marocco. In commemoration of this big event, September 8 was declared “Solidarity Day of the World Heritage Cities”.  Last year GPA and the City of Philadelphia celebrated Solidarity Day by officially renaming Walnut Street between 5th and 6th streets “World Heritage Way”.

This year we will be again celebrating Solidarity Day of the World Heritage Cities with the unveiling of the World Heritage Tool Kit for grade school students. The tool kit will include lesson plans and activities to help educators and their students use world heritage as a framework to understand global regions across disciplines.

A note from the: Executive Director

Welcome to the second iteration of a global expo designed to show the global impact of Philadelphia and the region.
These are exceptional times for Philadelphia and its
evolution. An increasingly defined presence on the world stage is a part of the city’s current story.

The GlobalPhilly Expo will lead you to over 150 events presented by the members of the Global Philadelphia Association. With something to suit all, the events are identified by 12 categories.

In addition we feature “Global Events” happening overseas and emanating from Philadelphia; Nation Days showing countries active in the region; and Family-friendly events for all the family. You will also begin to learn a little about the evolution of Philadelphia towards possibly becoming a World Heritage City.

Prepare yourself to enjoy these opportunities carefully curated for you by Global Philadelphia and its members. Look out for the GlobalPhilly passport for it us a guide to what is on in Philly in the Fall of 2015. Most of all enjoy the global offerings in PHL
